The Doobie Brothers perform at Orange Bowl, event loses luster
The Doobie Brothers embodied music like no body and their style the has become a musical archetype . They performed at the halftime show of the 75th Fedex Orange Bowl game on Thursday, Jan 1, 2009 at the Dolphin statdium.
The Legendary American rock band, The Doobie Brothers, is also slated to perform inside Cobo Arena at the 2009 North American International Auto Show.
To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Orange Bowl, the local orange jackets brought in the almost-75-year-old Doobie Brothers to sing Long Train Runnin' and China Grove at halftime. Rousing though that was for many of us in the prostate-exam-or-mammogram set, it just seemed remindful that the Orange Bowl was celebrating a history it lost long ago.
In fact, only the flawed, fun game between Cincinnati and Virginia Tech seemed to fit in with those increasingly bleary highlights of Kansas' 12-men, goal-line quarterback sneaks by Alabama's Joe Namath (stopped) and Nebraska's Jerry Tagge (touchdown) and Ken Calhoun tipping off the University of Miami's era of dominance.
This 20-7 Hokie win lacked that kind of game drama, although it certainly had enough fun plays to be a worthy way of spending New Year's Night.
You won't find many better runs than the 17-yard touchdown slide by Virginia Tech quarterback Tyrod Taylor, whose shake-and-bake on Cincinnati linebacker Ryan Manalac faked the linebacker halfway to Miami Lakes while Taylor shed tacklers before scooting inside the pylon.

TO Sanjay Jha,
Message from Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Are you having difficulties with numbers?
Is that the reason you became a 'journalist'?
You wrote "75 year old Doobie Bros".
What does this suppose to mean? An ironic statement????
Check YouTube/DoobieBrothers/WithoutYou and see what guys are up to in 2008/2009. They still blow away all their peers from the seventies & eighties.
Regards, Hans

Hans, Thanks very much for your comments. I think you are mistaken. I didn't write 75 year Old. As Ravi had said i meant event has lost the lustre. I agree that they are still blowing away their from seventies & eighties, Best, Sanjay

Can live with your response ;-))
All the best in 2009!

Hans, Your reading is at fault. Sanjay didn't write that, he highlighted (quoted) an article from the Miami Herald. Otherwise you're correct to point out the two original members were born 1948 and 1950.

Hey PO,
Although the 'poor' in your name is in strange contradiction with the richness of your knowlegde, I humbly argue your remark regarding the year of birth of the 2 original members. Tom J. and Pat S. were both born in '48. But what the heck, the rock!

Just wondering, I provided most of the Doobie Brothers photos as a courtesy to Now Public, but by the flickr.com TOS, there is a required link back to the images online. I was surprised that there was no credit to me or to flickr. I took the photos at the concert held at the Phoenix Open (now called FBR Open) golf tournament in Scottsdale last year in February. I hope fans of the group do enjoy the images. I was expecting to enjoy the music but was astounded that this band is so electric and just plain fun, after reeling in all these years.

Hi Cobalt - thanks for your comment and for the photos. If you look at the individual photos you'll see that each one is credited to you, and there is a link to your Flickrstream at the top right. Thanks again.

These are iPhone 3G photos from a Doobie Brothers show at the WonderWorld conference in Las Vegas. It was an awesome show and we were able to get just a few feet from the stage. The Doobie Brothers may look a little older, but the sound as good as when I saw them in the 70's.
