Dramatic scenes in Tonbridge High Street this afternoon
Several police cars descended on Tonbridge High Street at around 1600 hours by the Great Bridge.
At first I thought it was a road accident, as the street is very busy by the junction but the numbers of emergency service personnel made me think that this was far more serious and they were there to help seal off the road.
Several police officers were congregating by the HSBC bank at the Great Bridge and others were talking to people at a pub opposite.
I saw a young police community support officer replace a lifebuoy.
The area is a notorious area for drownings and only a few weeks back, I reported that one of the lifebuoys was missing, and how few there were, considering the numbers of people drowning in the river. The officer confirmed that that one has now been replaced too.
As at 1700 hours, there is no information in the local paper but if I have an update will keep you posted.
