Dave Arneson, co-creator of the famous game system 'Dungeons & Dragons' died on Tuesday after succumbing to cancer at the age of 61. He and fellow gaming enthusiast Gary Gigax (who died in March of 2008) created the popular role playing game in 1974.

Arneson was credited with pushing for a single character that players would develop and use, playing through quests designed and controlled by a single game master. Family and friends report that he continued playing games with fans and fellow gamers for years until his health declined.

Arneson and Gary Gygax developed Dungeons & Dragons in 1974 using medieval characters and mythical creatures. The game known for its oddly shaped dice became a hit, particularly among teenage boys. It eventually was turned into video games, books and movies.

Gygax died in March 2008.

(Hm, I thought the comment was going to be specific to the picture I added, not a general comment on the article overall.)

It's amazing how one little idea can grow into a giant social network of people. More than just a game, D&D is a reason to get together with friends.
