The Eastin Hotel Makkasan is located in an area that will receive a big boost in the very near future. That’s because it’s very close to the new train that will link downtown Bangkok with Suvarnabhumi Airport. This new rail link will be opening in 2009 and will allow travelers to reach the airport in less than 30 minutes from a station very close to the hotel. The Eastin brand is spread around various cities in Southeast Asia and is relatively new here in Bangkok.

The hotel has an Asian restaurant, an international restaurant, a high-altitude nightclub with great views and a spa. And, the hotel has just gone through a full renovation that was completed in January 2008 and has brought it up to the Eastin brand standard. All 280 guest rooms and suites were fitted with luxury bedding and many other amenities including internet access and hi-tech in-room entertainment systems.

The hotel is also close to the Pratunam and Ratchaprasong areas where there are famous clothes markets and street shopping as well as more upscale shopping complexes such as Central World, Siam Paragon, Siam Center and MBK. All rooms come with Air conditioning with individual control units, IDD telephone with extension in the bathroom, a fully stocked mini bar, an LCD TV with 24 hour local and satellite programs, a private safe and broadband internet. The Executive Suites also have a 40” TV, CD player and small bar area.

Also, starting in January, 2009 the hotel will have dedicated family floors for travelers with young children.  The floors will consist of Superior and Deluxe rooms with connecting rooms.   Furnishings and the theme of the floors have been designed for young families with children 12 years and below in mind and feature a dedicated play room on the floor with toys, games and activities focused on younger children. This will include special TV/DVD entertainment, bathrobes, slippers, mini-bar selection, baby changing mats, use of strollers, milk warming equipment, shampoos and soaps and a 24-hour babysitting service will be available.

The hotel’s main amenities include a pool and sauna, banquet and conference facilities, a spa and two restaurants and two bars as well as a business center. The Glass House is the hotel’s all-day restaurant located on the lobby level that features buffets and ala carte dishes both. The buffets are at all three meal times and at night the dinner buffet features themes that change nightly and range from German cuisine to Asian cuisine to seafood and meats. Garlic & Pepper is the hotel’s Southeast Asian restaurant and serves guests a wide variety of foods from this part of the world. It is located poolside on the 10th floor and serves only dinner while providing some striking views of the Bangkok skyline. For real high-altitude ambience, though, you can check out the Attica Sky Lounge on the 23rd floor where the views are even more spectacular and there is a light dinner menu as well as a wide variety of cocktails, wine and beer.  

And the hotel’s spa and pool are perfect for relaxing at any time. The spa is located on the 10th floor and open daily. There are five treatment suites available for guests with a variety of treatment programs to choose from.

This hotel is well situated now but will be even more convenient for travelers as soon as the rail link opens up. It’s a good lower cost alternative than the more expensive hotels not far away.
