The surviving cast of Eight is Enough held a reunion on The Today Show, but Adam Rich was absent. Eight is Enough, which ran from 1977-1981, was a popular family comedy-drama; sort of a more-serious Brady Bunch. Adam Rich, who played Nicolas Bradford, was a breakaway star in the show, though once Eight is Enough ended, Adam Rich's career stalled.
Adam Rich's post-Eight is Enough life is punctuated with drug problems and run-ins with the law, helping fuel the stereotype of Hollywood kids who grow up and stop being cute, like Gary Coleman. Also missing from the reunion was Lani O'Grady (Mary Bradford), who died of a drug overdose in 2001.
The cast of Eight is Enough, and where they are now:
- Dick Van Patten (co-founded Natural Balance Pet Foods, wrote autobiography Eight is Not Enough)
- Adam Rich (substance abuse and legal problems; last arrested for DUI in 2003)
- Diana Hyland (Died of breast cancer in 1977)
- Betty Buckley (Still working- watch for her in The Pacific later this year)
- Grant Goodeve (Stage actor and musician)
- Lani O'Grady (Died of a prescription-drug overdose in 2001)
- Laurie Walters (Head of acquisitions for Ironweed Films)
- Susan Richardson (Caretaker in a retirement home)
- Dianne Kay (Hasn't acted since 1999, stayed off the radar)
- Connie Newton (Dance teacher in Orange County)
- Willie Aames (Attempted suicide after alcohol and financial problems; now a licensed financial advisor)
