Earlier this year the album won the Mercury Music Prize and Elbow have toured the UK to full houses since then.

The band are also playing the album live in a special gig with the BBC Concert Orchestra that will take place on the 17th January 2009 at the famous Abbey Road Studios. The gig will be broadcast live by the BBC at 7pm.

The Mercury prize winning record was voted top in the 'Poll Of Polls' survey conducted by HMV which took in votes from media critics, staff and online customers.

It pulled in 18 nominations in total across 35 publications, sites and organisations that were polled.

And news of that special gig:

Elbow are set to perform and record their Nationwide Mercury Prize-winning album 'The Seldom Seen Kid' with the BBC Concert Orchestra on January 17 at the London Abbey Road studio.

The performance will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 2 on the evening at 7pm (GMT).

The Who Tour. December 14th 2009. Indigo O2. London I have to admit this has to be one of the most poiniant gigs I have experienced, ever, I saw The Who at Gastonbury, in 2007, and was blown away, I made a pact with myself that I must see them again, sometime, I was prepared to wait as I knew it would be worth waiting for, I've heard a saying that will stay with me this week, "the best gigs are worth suffering for" and suffer I did all in the name of rock and roll! I stood in a queue, in the freezing cold wrapped up in varying layers for warmth, along with other avid fans, from as far as America, for over 5 hours to make sure I got a good spot on the barrier. No I'm not mad, there's just some things you've got to do. I was wondering what I had let myself in for, the couple I had travelled with Jon in particular, had travelled worldwide to see them, often going to several gigs on the trott, so who were these crazy people that stand in the cold all day? would I feel out of my depth with such "who" knowledgable fans, I'm just a beginner, I only know the popular ones, but am learning fast. "Who are you do, do doo doo" "Talking about my je je je genertation" my fave so far Wont get fooled again, like I said still a beginner, lots to learn. After queing all afternoon finally the doors were opened, the whole que pushed forward, I was told to "stand firm" and "keep close" oh my god I thought, are we going into some kind of war zone! I was one of the first to be let through, my card was swiped I had my ticket, next thing was to leg it, down the corridor.....up the stairs.....through the doors, I spied the barrier, my instinct just took me upto it. Cool, I had my spot, right at the front, on the barrier, right in front of Pete, I'm on first name terms and can call him that, I've watched the dvd's, joined the fan club, and got a programme. But where's the others, problem with dodgy, ticket machine, only thing for it, spread out, made myself wide (not difficult) elbows out, I held on to the barrier for what seems like ages, 15 mins in fact, I was thinking all sorts, that I was going to see The Who alone, or they would be at the back, nightmare. In time a burley bouncer parted the crowd like you would do for royalty to allow my friends there well deserved spot...on the barrier... where I was saving there spaces. With a wink of recognition I felt proud, I had done the time too, and would have died if I had been in there position. All was well, after the support band had finished the crowd roared as The Who came on stage, I was wired with emotion, the legends I had waited to see were standing right befor me, I soon forgot about the cold and was well in my element, smiling from ear to ear, eyes wide open, I was amazed by the energy the performance had built up inside me, Pete is awesome, he holds no bounds for the art of his guitar playing, his performance was excellent, truly sensational, an inspiration to stand so close too. just ....wow... really, words cant describe. Ok, I admit , I was conscious I didnt know all the words but, I was rockin with the best! The gig seemed to be over too fast, I want to see them again.........sometime.

thanks - funny how one thinks of brilliant gigs we've been to when we hear folks talk about one of their favourites - one of mine was Misty in Roots with The Ruts supporting back in 78.

Quality through and through.
The way they include the audience in the show makes it even better.
