Elizabeth Post Who Took Over Emily Post's Etiquette Books, Has Died at Age 89

Elizabeth Post was the granddaughter-in-law of the famous Emily Post, who published Emily Post's Etiquette as a manual for current social norms. Elizabeth Post took over the manual and revised and republished it five times over the years to keep it up to date and current.

She also wrote over a dozen books on etiquette and was the spokesperson for the Emily Post Institute in Vermont. She also devoted her time to writing a column in Good Housekeeping magazine on the importance of manners and good etiquette.

Post's daughter-in-law, Peggy Post, says the the 89-year-old died on Saturday in Naples, Fla.

Elizabeth was reportedly really nervous when she was first going to meet the famous Emily Post, but Elizabeth, known as Libby, was put to rest as soon as she met the good manners guru.

“As soon as Libby and Emily met, Emily gave her a big hug,” Peggy Post, daughter-in-law of Elizabeth Post, recalled on Monday.

Libby lived with her husband William Goadby Post and they took part in activities such as painting, golfing and fishing together.

Since retiring, Peggy Post has taken over many of her mother-in-law's former duties.

Peggy Post has since assumed many of those duties, and with her husband and Elizabeth Post’s other children and grandchildren, she helps run institute activities. Family members occasionally consulted Elizabeth Post on some of the harder questions, Peggy and Allen Post recalled. Post, in turn, kept current with the etiquette issues of the day.
