Elizabeth Taylor Announces Heart Operation on Twitter

Elizabeth Taylor anounces her heart operation on Twitter today to avoid it getting in to the papers. She says it was to repair a leaky valve and that it was not for open heart surgery.

Her last tweet seven hours ago said:

Any prayers you happen to have lying around I would dearly appreciate. I'll let you know when it's all over. Love you, Elizabeth

She also spoke about the procedure that she will be undergoing:

It's very new and involves repairing my leaky valve using a clip device, without open heart surgery, so that my heart will function better.

When Elizabeth Taylor is attending public appearances she often uses a wheelchair, but she seems to be fighting back and uses Twitter to keep in contact with her fans.

The actress's health has been the subject of intense speculation in recent years. In 1997 she underwent surgery to have a brain tumour removed, in 2004 she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and in 2006 she appeared on US television to deny rumours she had Alzheimer's.
