NP Rank:
Erotica vs Pornography Bubbles Over
Last week a debate was opened in the forums of the popular art site redbubble regarding their new NSFW Rules. What is Porn? Their rules are fairly straight forward and more than fair in my mind. As host of the Erotic Art and Writing group The Blue Room I and my members are willing to abide by them. But of course when a debate opens that has anything at all to do with sex and nudity well BOOM you have World War 4 on your hands. Point of views are being made which make some sense, others which make not one iota of sense and some which are just plain nasty.
So while the debate was open and originally about why an uncovered vagina is accepted as erotica and an erect penis is not accepted because it may be viewed as pornography has now turned into a child porn/domestic violence/assault against men, women and children and anti bdsm all out slanging match. It goes to show how an uncovered boob or vagina or an erect penis can turn people inside out and upside down. Opinions have veered so left of centre from the original topic it astounds not only me but the artists who genuinely believe in and are passionate about the beauty of the human form and the way in which they portray it. There is nothing but gorgeous art and written erotica in my group. Art a lot of people would proudly and lovingly hang on the walls of their homes. There is probably more work which borders on pornography seen on television or in a movie these days than there is on genuine art sites such as redbubble.

At a time when more and more women are spending thousands of dollars to have vaginaplasty so their yonis can resemble those popularized by the porn industry I'd say that any reasonable opportunity to educate about and appreciate the beauty of nature is important.
