Facebook in Kernow (Cornwall) - No thanks - we've set up our own !
There's something I like about our fellow Celts, the Cornish - they just won't be put down !
As a direct result of the social networking website Facebook's refusal to acknowledge Cornwall as worthy of having its own region group (let alone country!) a new website has been launched providing many of the features of Facebook and a few more.
Increasingly sliding gently away from English rule, even all of Cornwall's MP's had demanded that Facebook give Kernow its own entity and Facebook were plagued with thousands of requests from Cornish people in the same vein. But thet rather stupidly refused to adjust their corporate stance. Well, the egg's on their face now ! And facebook have lost out due to their inflexibility.
Cornwall's Coolest went live last week and already has nearly 200 members from all around Kernow and from further afield.
www.cornwallscoolest.com is Cornwall's very first dedicated social networking and lifestyle website aimed at recommending the coolest music, fashion, events, accommodation, sports and leisure, beaches and arts to both those that live in Cornwall and those travelling to Cornwall.
Since Facebook's non-acknowledgement for Cornwall as a region (in which the two facebook groups have a combined total of 30,000 people petitioning it) and the lack of information out and about for the country with regards to whats going on one enterprising Cornish chap had the idea of creating www.cornwallscoolest.com - a place where people can join, browse, chat, buy concert tickets, book flights, post photos from a night out, make new friends with out having to search numerous sites - you can do all of this in one.
The social networking tool allows businesses and clients to interact like never before - For example if you own a Bed and Breakfast or Hotel you can message members prices throughout the year, inform them of improvements you have made or weekend deals. Restaurants and Cafes can deliver messages direct to members inbox's informing them of special offers on meals or promotional nights. Retail stores can inform customers of sales, xmas opening times and new clothing lines. Bars and Nightclubs can tell customers of events, theme nights or drink promotions!
Become part of a social networking site where Cornish bands, bars, clubs, clothing labesl and party organisers alike can give you the latest on what they have to offer. Build your own profile, add your own pictures, promote your own events, join different groups and just enjoy what Cornwall has to offer...
'Bloody hell, it looks brilliant! Is it actually up and running yet? I can't wait - That is a wicked idea'
Sam Andrews, The Times newsgroup
'Sounds like a great idea!'
Julia Goldsworthy, Member of Parliament for Falmouth and Camborne in Kernow
'Great website for both locals/tourists'
Cllr Chris Menear, Penwith District Council
Well done the Cornish. Now, the next brilliant idea is instead of continually asking the English Government for independence, just go ahead and declare it. What could they do, send in a few rusty tanks brought back from some foreign war ?
(footnote :- over 11% over the Cornish are now constantly demanding independence. During 2009, a form of home rule takes place and the leader of Cornwall's Executive has said there is something inevitable about the slide to a Cornish parliament. Good on you says me)

bryn.myrddin.dimilioc, I like this story. It's good stuff. and many congratulations to the Cornish put down by the English for long enough. We Irish as well as being cousins of yours have much empathy with your struggles.

Bobby Sands went a bit too overboard on the slim fast...
Bobby would really like it if you met up with him in hell.
