You're so vain... I bet you thought this URL was about you... and, for all you Facebookers, it actually is. As of 9:01am on Friday, June 12, Facebook is enabling vanity URLs.

Hold your horses, though... these will not be available to just anyone. Oh, no, sirree. First of all, you have to have been a member since before today (forget about it, cybersquatters). Availability will be rolled out depending on when you joined, so Johnny-and-Jennie-come-latelies won't get to select a vanity URL until June 28 by which time they'll be stuck with Johnnycomelately28761.

Oh, yeah, and if you're using a Facebook Page (for business and media entities), you gotta have at least 1,000 fans.

Also, your URL must be more than four characters long. So Jeff Lebowski can't use facebook.com/dude. He'd need to use facebook.com/thedude.

n Saturday, you'll be able to replace those numbers with a name of your choice to make it easier for people to navigate to your site. For example, you can switch from http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1... to http://www.facebook.com/chloe. And it's free.

Oh, and don't misspell it, since you only get one chance to choose.

Over 57,000 users commented on Facebook's blog post, with some variation of "Yay!" or "Boo!".

I believe availability is as of 9:01PM Eastern (not 9:01AM) on Friday the 12th.
