Still that first day with Nick and Meredith - the vast and glorious open space of the turbine hall, that we'd proudly hoped to present to Nick, was partially boxed off and filled by this massive container, being given its finishing touches by men on cranes. It's a work by Miroslaw Balka, called 'How It Is'. Now that it's ready and open to the public, you are invited to walk up the ramp and explore the pitch darkness inside it. The art critic, Adrian Searle, called this an unsettling experience but pronounced that it 'reveals darkness rather than cloaking it in mystery,' which I think will appeal to Nick.
