NP Rank:
Is Facial Hair Sexy?
By Steve Venegas
It separates the men from the boys. It's a sign of
wisdom and virility. It harkens back to a day when being a Macho Man
wasn't necessarily a bad thing. I'm talking facial hair.
Being
in my mid-twenties, I've had a few years under my belt experimenting with
the wild woolly world of male pogonotrophy, the growing of male facial
hair. In fact, for the better part of the last two years I've been
sporting a trim mustache and beard combo in style commonly known as a
Van Dyke. While this look was popular with the beatniks, communists and
nineties grunge-rockers, it has failed to establish a niche for itself
in the current popular consciousness of acceptable male style. Read the rest of this hilarious and interesting story and find out if facial hair is sexy on The Vancouver Observer

Well, I like to think that it is, since mine grows like a Chia Pet on crack.

I have Viking facial hair - so it must be manly. Well, that and when I work out at the gym I lift more than 99% of the men there.

... and that's because of the facial hair! It's like some Samson action.

I've been fully bearded up for almost two years now, and from my experience the "is it sexy" question can be answered by two groups of women:
The latter group has been encountered only on rare (uncomfortable) occasions.

Seems like beards are all the rage with the hipster kids these days. I reckon it has something to do with the notion that authenticity is derived from grunginess. "He stinks? Oh yeah, that guy's for real."
I have a beard and I love it. It makes me feel safe on those days I need extra protection from the harsh vicissitudes of life.
Pogonotrophy...great word.
