The status on the Prince of Wales and potential Princess' relationship has been headlining the magazines for many years. After the lovesome duo hit the 3-year mark, everyone assumed that a royal wedding was just around the corner. Instead, the two went on in stride with their undefined love affair, keeping it away from the prying eyes of the paparazzi as much as possible.
So why the postponement? Prince William, now 24, is quickly approaching the age where not marrying his girlfriend of 6 years brings up questions of concern. Especially since, just last year, the Prince and Middleton decided to go on a two-month long break in April 2007. Who's idea the break was, the public doesn't know; however some insiders have suggested that Middleton wasn't getting enough attention, and that Prince William had turned his focus towards his Army career and other girls. Just a couple months after the split, Middleton and Prince William stated to the public that they were “just good friends.”
Prince William has expressed on more than one occasion that he felt that he was just too young to get married, and didn't want to enter into any legally-binding arrangement until age 28. According to Us Magazine, the entire royal family was advising him “not to rush into things . . . so he couldn't give her what she wanted.” This was the response he gave to Middleton when asked where their future was headed.
The family's advice to William about slowing down has nothing to do with their affection for Kate, in fact – it's been noted that the Queen is quite fond of her. Their reluctance has a great deal to do with the Princess Diana heartbreak that ripped the country in two a little more than a decade prior. Judy Wade, a royal correspondent, told Us Magazine that the Queen, “wants William to take his time choosing a wife in order to avoid another royal divorce like the ones that damaged the monarchy in the '90's.”
In spite of his resolve to hold off on the marriage plans, Middleton and Prince William got back together in October 2007 and reconciled their longstanding relationship. Last December, it was rumored that Middleton moved into Prince William's royal residence, Clarence Hall. They're even saying that she is allegedly known as “The Lady of the House” and is already busy selecting wallpaper and paint for the old-fashioned home.
Despite contention from royal insiders insisting this information is fallacious, the gossip has gotten the entire world astir. Could this be the year that Prince William and Middleton walk down the aisle? Some say “yes” and most Britons agree: Middleton would make a fine princess.
