NP Rank:
'Family Feud' Heading to Primetime
While it's possible the show could cast celeb families such as the Baldwin brothers or the Lohan clan, producers might also take a page from "Feud" history and use the casts of TV shows and movies (think the "Lost" castaways vs. the "Heroes" gang). During its original run, "Feud" often featured theme weeks in which stars of, say, "Baywatch" or "American Gladiators" competed against each other.
Sale of "Feud" reps the latest resurrection of a quizzer format by Fremantle, which boasts a huge library of classic game shows.
CBS just greenlit another batch of primetime episodes of the studio's "The Price Is Right." Eye is also prepping "Million Dollar Password," perhaps for the summer. And TBS is readying a primetime take on Fremantle's "Match Game."
New take on "Feud" also continues NBC programming co-chief Ben Silverman's love affair with all things '70s and '80s. During his first year at the net, Silverman has revived both "Knight Rider" and "Gladiators."
With "Feud," NBC adds another project to its increasingly crowded "All-American Summer" slate of reality skeins set to roll out in mid-May with the return of "Gladiators."
