Farrah Fawcett: Oscars 'In Memoriam' Snub
Farrah Fawcett Missing from Academy Award's 'In Memoriam' Tribute
Many viewers pointed out that the biggest flop in last night's broadcast of the 82nd Academy Awards was the decision to exclude Farrah Fawcett from the show's tribute to stars who passed away in 2009.

The Charlie's Angels star was missing from from the memoriam, which featured stars Patrick Swayze, Brittany Murphy and Michael Jackson, to name a few.
Oscar producers are defending the decision to leave Fawcett out of the mix, saying there simply isn't time to show every person that has passed away.
But Oscar bosses have defended their decision. Bruce Davis, the executive director of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, says, "It is the single most troubling element of the Oscar show every year. Because more people die each year than can possibly be included in that segment. You are dropping people who the public knows. It's just not comfortable."
Fawcett Remembered by Fans, Colleagues, if not Oscars
Numerous stars and members of the entertainment industry were upset that Fawcett wasn't included.
Jane Fonda wrote on Twitter: "Where was Farrah Fawcett? She should have been included."
Screenwriter and critic Rogert Ebert also commented on the snub: "No Farrah in the memorial. They have a whole lot of 'splaining (sic) to do."
There is speculation that Fawcett was left off the tribute because she is most well known for her TV work, but that explanation doesn't hold water as Michael Jackson, known for his music and not his acting, was featured.

The people that were honoured were those that influenced the film industry. It doesn't matter how many films they made or the length of their acting career. I think we can all agree that Michael Jackson took the music video to a whole new level with his short films. They were really mini movies. I'm not very familiar with Farrah Fawcett, but what exactly was her contribution to the film industry other than being a sex symbol?

I don't mean this to diminish her loss, but exactly how Britney Murphy influence the film industry? -- The people that were honoured were those that influenced the film industry. Farrah Fawcett was in Logan's Run - a Sci Fi movie. She was screwed as she was on the day she died since she shared it with jackson.

The Oscars have always been about snubs. It's usually about politics, this year was just sloppy. I never thought they would snub posthumously. mundwiller.blogspot.com/

carolina i will attribute your rather ignorant comment to the fact that your probably under 40...Farrah was a pop culture icon and sex symbol, she defined an era....She was primarily known for her TV work, however, she did got top billing and starred in 3 feature films in 78-79-80...Extremities? did you forget that one? The Apostle? So, how does MJ get mentioned for making 1 movie in 1978, which was a major flop?? MJ is a musical icon not an actor, I don't care how many mini-movie videos hes made, bottom line, hes not an actor...

Farrah was also in Cannonball Run, one of the most popular movies of its time.

Michael has been in eight feature films, besides he's DEAD, how the hell is it his fault that Farrah wasnt included, people can be so ignorant its unbelieveable. He was an actor although he was not primarily known for that because he was the worlds biggest entertainer. But you cant say he doesnt belong their as much as Farrah, The academy should have made the segment a bit longer cut a few speeches short. Blame the academy not MJ , give the man a break ,hasnt he suffered enough because of the media bloodsuckers and public haters when he was alive?.Geez.1978 The Wiz 1986 Captain EO 1988 Moonwalker 1997 Ghosts 2002 Men in Black II 2004 Miss Cast Away and the Island Girls 2009 Michael Jackson's This Is It Michael Jackson's "This is it" film is the highest grossing documentary of all time making 260 million dollars surpassing michael moores farenheight 9/11 that made 222.6 million. so yes he does deserve to be there. RIP to them Both.

To Brian Johnson.
No One is putting any blame on Michael Jackson, if they are, where can you verify this? I see a majority of people posting blame against the academy. These People are upset with the people who compiled the montage who felt it was more appropriate to include someone like MJ, who is more of a musical entertainer, than an actor, over someone like Farrah. MJ deserves a life-long tribute, but at the right places/time. This is an award show for movies, not music.... and as much as you can rebuttle that all of MJ's music videos and cameos are enough to give him credit as an actor, its not. I'm a big fan of all his big productions, thriller, scream, black or white, and even his movie appearences. (However, i would not count This is It, because as you stated, its a documentary, not much acting going on, in a behind the scenes film)
Farrah is an actress that was snubbed, although as stated before, is more known for her TV roles. To not include her OVER someone who is more deserving of a musically-based award, is why people are angry. They aren't saying he isn't deserving, but someone more deserving was left out.

Why is Michael Jackson’s inclusion in the Oscar’s In Memoriam, a reason for Farrah’s exclusion? Yes, Farrah should have been included, but can anyone not see that it's highly illogical to suggest this is somehow Michael Jackson’s fault. In case anyone hadn’t noticed, Michael is dead - he’s not making the decisions anymore. As well as his contributions in The Wiz and This Is It, in 2009, the Thriller video was inducted into the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress, the first music video to ever receive this honor, for being “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant ” and will be preserved for all time. This is clearly a media created story to tag Michael's Jackson's name into some sort of face-off with Farrah garner hits and comments. And guess what, it worked!

The criteria is simply that you appeared in a film - and are dead. This is a media created story to tag Michael's Jackson's name into some sort of face-off with Farrah ot garner hits and comments. Let's just keep it real! One shouldn't have been snubbed over the other. They were both great contributors to the film industry. Both, Farrah and Michael, should have been included in the segment. I am 47 and I am REAL familiar with their work. They were great ICONIC figures. May they both rest in peace. Hey, Academy big wigs, if you can't make the time to include every one, don't have the segment!!!!! It will only cause pain to those of us that love them so much. Now you guys, up top, stop your arguing! ;)
