My empathy goes out to these kids family and friends, first and foremost, because it is, after all, a loss for them. As a result of the loss, I'm sure that many members of the family or the friends of the deceased have conflicting feelings/emotions/thoughts/denial about what happened or, more importantly, why it happened. In the midst of the commotion, one still has to have some clear thoughts or perspective about it and the reality is that, unfortunately, one of these kids was negligent in their driving and it is what caused the accident. One cannnot dispute the validity of the report of a crime scene investigation and say that none of it is true because they are currently grieving and fail to see the truth in what actually happened.
The reason I write this is because it's not fair for the other individuals, like one of the family members, who was involved in this accident. Needing to be hospitalized, having to deal with the insurance company, having some psychological trauma occur because of the experience, what was seen at the accident, etc, etc, etc all because of the negligence of two teenagers that were speeding down a busy street. Was it a sense of entitlement that made these two assume it was okay to do? I'm not sure but one thing is for sure, everyone must learn from this to know that failure to be responsible or safe, inadvertently affects everyone.
Again, my condolences go out the family. But please, do not demand respect or assume we all have to feel sorry for you because this affected many, many other people, not just you and yours.

I want to give my condolences as a former Substitute teacher for both Kathleen, and Brian. I just heard the devastating news today. I remember Brian from 2005, when I first started teaching. Brian had a stellar personality, and a lot of potential. Although it's been three years since he was at our school, I still remember our class discussions on careers and colleges that he was such an active participant in. He was funny, and had the class laughing with his contagious smile. I didn't get to know Kathleen quite as well, but what I do remember is how polite, and kind she was. My deepest sympathy goes out to the family of both Brian, and Kathleen. I too am also sorry for the other innocent individuals who were involved.
I hope this tragedy serves a purpose in reminding all, but especially the youth of today how quickly an accident can happen. In the era of cell phones, texting, MP3, etc. remember to always give 100% attention to the road when you are driving. Always remind your friends to wear their seat belts, and never accept no for an answer.
Best Regards,
Ms. Meyer
