Feist Wins 2007 Shortlist Music Prize

'The Reminder' is one of the few CDs I bought last year. For my mom. And it's the only one I can think of that's being lauded with both mellow baby boomer and hipster music blogger praise.

2007 was a massive, Apple-iPod-Lacoste-ad-popularity-sized year for indie crooner and industry darling, Ms. Leslie Feist.

With the Shortlist prize under her belt, the only question now is not could she win a Grammy or Juno, but how many will she walk away with?
Feist continues to win recognition from her peers, collecting four Grammy nominations — and now, winning the Shortlist Music Prize for her album "The Reminder."

The Shortlist, in its seventh year, pays tribute to artists who haven't hit the mainstream yet. [...]

Finalists for the 2007 Shortlist Music Prize also included Arcade Fire, Burial, Justice, LCD Soundsystem, M.I.A., Spoon, Stars, Wilco and Working for a Nuclear Free City.

Feist, 31, is the second woman to snag the prize, following Cat Power's win last year. Past winners also include Damien Rice, N.E.R.D., TV on the Radio and Sufjan Stevens.

this was an amazing show in louisville. she was stumbling around on an injured foot but it didnt hurt the music any and it provided for some funny onstage jokes.

Hands down the best show i went to in all of 007. That voice is absolutely amazing! We got to hear that sultry feisty voice sing for an hour and a half starting with 'my moon, my man' , ending with 'mushaboom', and finishing out her 3 song encore with 'let it die'. i have a new found appreciation for the song 'sea lion' after hearing it live--they rocked it out! It is admittedly one of my least favorites songs on the album, but the show changed that-- it was my favorite song of the night.

Seattle's amazing Paramount Theater show certainly seems well represented here, in the photos anyway. She's come a long way since playing the dives and byways of the Canadian road.

Feist has captured my heart since her early days with Broken Social Scene. I'm happy her music has finally caught on with the rest of the world and it couldn't have happened to somebody more deserving.

Feist performs in front of a live studio audience at independent public radio station 91.3fm WYEP in Pittsburgh, PA USA.

Side note: She was particularly interested in learning more about the "green" WYEP Community Broadcast Center...the "first green station in the nation". www.wyep.org

The Reminder is a fantastic CD. I saw Feist perform on Night 2 of KROQ's Almost Acoustic Christmas and she blew me away.

For her intro to the stage she stood behind this screen that made her taller, a force to match her voice, that she dubbed over and over again, creating a symphony of sound with one instrument, hers. . The concert felt like a truly intimate artistic experience that combined songs off her last 2 albums with orginal sounds and anecdotes.

I've been in love with Feist's music since I heard a recording of "Gatekeeper" from "Let It Die" about 4 years ago on National Public Radio out of Detroit Michigan. I picked up the album and have been following her through "Open Season" and the recent "The Reminder"

Of course soon after hearing her voice, and her name I realized she was a member of Broken Social Scene. What an amazing artist.

She played a free acoustic gig in the second story of a borders in Ann Arbor where I was lucky enough to see her perform and take some shots from behind a beyond-the-floor-weight-capacity sized crowd.

Enjoy!

The concert was really great coz her voice goes straight to your heart. I was banned listening to her great compositions and totally lost in the atmosphere. One of the best concerts I ever attended.

Photo by Brittany D. Friesner. Feist performing at the Brown Theatre in Louisville, Ky., Nov. 20, 2007.

Amazing artist, amazing woman. Even with a bum knee, she absolutely energized and mesmerized the audience.

Great show from a great performer! Freshly healed from an ankle injury, Leslie Feist and her band really entertained, played a wonderful set, and interacted with the crowd - Leslie even announced one concert goers desire to marry his girlfriend... and she accepted. Don't miss a chance to see Feist perform live - her voice has an intensity and power that comes through even stronger in person than on her amazing albums.

Feist was playing a fantastic gig in Paris in October 2007. She was the darling of the public, not only because she lived several years in Paris. Supported by Broken Social Scene, Leslie jumped onstage for two songs of her former group (obviously she didn't know exactly the lyrics) and then played an amazing set of older and newer songs of The Reminder. It was so lovely, Feist so charming. Read the full story (in German) here (including setlist):

Yes, a much deserved prize for a hard-working lady. These photos are from her gig in Dublin's Tripod in Sep '07. Not the best show I've ever seen, but her album is surely one of the highlights of last year.

I couldn't believe how intimate the Manchester show was, and it's unsurprising her next show in the city is going to be at the much bigger Palace Theatre!

I saw Feist at Bonnaroo. She let the photographers take pictures for one song and then kicked everyone out. I got 4 frames and this was the last. But I'm a fan stayed and watched the whole show...she was great.

she also does really great bird calls.
