Festival of Lights Chicago 2009: Photos and Videos
The Festival of Lights in Chicago for 2009 takes place tonight starting at 6pm, when Michigan Avenue will be lit up with hundreds of thousands of lights for the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival.
Thousands of people take part in this event leading up to the holiday season every year, when musicians and dancers perform the parade route, and about a million people are expected to show up. Millions more are expected to watch it on television. ABC News is broadcasting the event live on the web.
Children's musician Ralph Covert adapted the opening number from the Nutcracker.
"A lot of people have put a lot of energy and effort into this," said Covert.
The Festival of Lights in Chicago along Michigan Avenue is a tradition dating back 50 years, but this will be the 18th year that a parade has also been part of the festival.
Chicago closes Michigan Avenue from Wacker to Oak. Dearborn from Oak to Delaware also closes for the parade. The parade ends at the river, at the south end of Michigan Avenue.
Photos and Videos will be uploaded here as the event happens.

I remember this experience from our years in Chicago. It is about the only time of the season when it feels warm.
