BOB MARLEY's former bassist ASTON BARRETT has launched a bid to recover a guitar he claims the legendary rocker gave him as a gift.

Barrett - a founding member of Bob Marley and the Wailers - alleges the reggae star handed him the instrument in 1979, two years before he died.

He claims he gave the Yamaha SG-1000 to Angus Reid for safekeeping in 2000 - and was stunned to discover Reid had put it up for auction at London sale house Christie's.

Barrett - nicknamed Familyman because he has fathered as many as 52 children - is asking for the guitar back and $50,000USD in compensation.

Collectors were expected to attract bids as high as 40,000USD on the November 24th auction. The guitar was given to Bob Marley during a visit to the Yamaha factory in 1979 and was used in live performances by the legend in Tokyo and Osaka.

Besides Marley, other renowned players who used Yamaha SG guitars include Carlos Santana, jazz master Al Di Meola, Stax/Volt house guitarist Steve Cropper, Phil Manzanera (Roxy Music), Paul Barrere (Little Feat) and Al McCay (Earth, Wind & Fire).

This isn't the last we've heard of this...if he gets it back we will hear his 56 kids fighting over it after he dies...

Bob Marley would tell him to let it go...it's a material possession, which will only lead to Babylonian thinking...
