The final episode of hospital television drama ER will be broadcast Thursday April 2nd, and will end a 15 year run of one of the most popular television shows, which at one point drew in viewing figures of 32 million.

ER had more Emmy nominations than any other drama in TV history, they had 122 in total, and at its peak it was watched in 195 countries and in 22 lanugages. However, recently it has only had about nine million viewser per episode.

After Thursday's two-hour finale is aired, the show's slot will be filled with a variety show fronted by the rock star Ozzy Osbourne's family.

There are no immediate plans for the NBC network to search for a replacement drama, with commentators claiming an ever-more fragmented industry has read the last rites to the once ubiquitous phenomenon of the "super-show".

ER started in 1994 and saw some of their first stars rise to movie star fame; George Clooney being the biggest star.

I will miss it. Fifteen years, has it been that long? Hard to believe.
