While thousands in Iran are protesting to demand fair elections, some American politicians and activists are set to protest something that is slightly less important: firing David Letterman.

Protestors have started a "Fire David Letterman" website and are planning to protest the talk show host for jokes her made about Alaska governor Sarah Palin and her daughter Willow.

The protest is being organized by New York State Assemblyman Brian Kolb, attorney Gwendolyn Lindsay-Jackson, and radio talk show host John Ziegler. Earlier in the week, Ziegler was cut off during an interview with MSNBC about the Palin-Letterman controversy

The Fire David Letterman rally will take place on Tuesday, June 16 at the Ed Sullivan Theater at 4:30pm, an hour before the taping of Letterman's show.

Of course, the odds of CBS actually firing Letterman are a longshot at best, especially since Dave recently started beating the NBC's Tonight Show in the ratings. This week Dave beat out The Tonight Show in household ratings for the first time since Conan O'Brien took over the long-running NBC late night show. Perhaps instead of hurting his career, all the Letterman protests are actually helping it.

David Letterman should be FIRED immediately. Remember Don Imus with his nappy comment? He was fired. So, now, it's OK to target Gov. Palin's young daughters because they're white?! Imagine the outrage if the same mean-spirited comments were directed against Obama's daughters!

Letterman is NOT funny, he is disgusting. He should have apologized immediately instead of making the situation worse by giving a lame excuse clarifying which Palin's daughter he is talking about! Nowhere in the world can a national talk show host get away with such garbage. CBS should fire Letterman immediately. Perhaps then would CBS regain our respect, and the respect of the world.

Readers, boycott CBS until Letterman is fired. Do not give them the twisted rating boost.

no, it's okay to target her daughter because she's a dumb slut.  being white has nothing to do with it, other than making you sound idiotic.

Didn't David Letterman "knock up" the woman he's now married to?  I seem to

remember that it took several years before he did the right thing and married her.

Did he have to adopt the kid or was he listed as the father on the birth certificate?

Fire him, wish the same thing could be done to CBS.

As a former Madison Avenue Advertising Executive who has run his own Ad Agency in Miami since 1974 to present, I am compelled to speak-up against the tasteless and never ending bashing coming from David Letterman disguised as network comedy. No matter what his personal views are, your network name is on the masthead. Bathroom humor should remain in the bathroom and using the children of anyone, political or not, to be the butt of the joke is off limits. I'm the father of 3 very successful daughters who have been raised to know that this is not acceptable.
David Letterman owes an apology to Governor Palin, her daughters and to your viewers. Get it done and move on.

Letterman knocked up his girlfriend who bore him a child. He has sense of decency.

Todd Palin need to take him out for a spin on a snow machine.

I said"let's fire this jack ass..., he does not deserve to be in the spot light, and he is taking full advantage of his job. He needs to respect women, who does he think he is, he is not bigger than popular opinion.

Letterman is a sophomoric, no talent, mean-spirited dirty old man who should be fired.  Unfortunately CBS will likely lack the backbone to do the right thing.  But, the rest of us can boycott CBS, Letterman, and his sponsors until that finally drives him off the air.  It shouldn't take more than 18 months; let's face it: he hasn't been funny since 1993.

I sent the below to CBS on 6/13 and did not receive any kind of acknowledgment.

HOW DOES CBS ALLOW A 62 YEAR OLD MAN WITH A SON,BY THE WAY WHOSE AGE IS MORE IN LINE TO BEING HIS GRANDSON, GET AWAY WITH MAKING SUCH A DISGUSTING RANT IN THE GUISE OF A JOKE? THIS WAS DIRECTED TOWARDS A FOURTEEN YEAR OLD GIRL. NOT FUNNY. WHAT HE SAID IS LIKEN TO THE PROVERBIAL "DIRTY OLD MAN". A MANTLE THAT FITS AND THAT HE WEARS WELL.

I HAVE YET TO SEE OR HEAR CBC AND THIS 62 YEAR OLD SHAM OF A MAN APOLOGIZE TO THIS YOUNG LADY, HER FAMILY AND TO ALL WOMEN. HIS PATHETIC ATTEMPT AT AN APOLOGY THE OTHER NIGHT JUST GOES TO SHOW HIS IGNORANCE AND ARROGANCE.

IMUS MADE A HEARTFELT APOLOGY ON THE AIR TO THE YOUNG WOMEN FROM RUTGER'S AS WELL AS MEETING WITH THEM IN PRIVATE. AND YET HE STILL PAID A VERY HIGH PRICE.

WHAT PRICE IS THIS 62 YEAR OLD MAN GOING TO PAY?

HOWEVER I CAN SEE A LARGE INCREASE IN YOUR VIEWERSHIP FOR THIS SHOW. ALBEIT THEY WILL BE LIVING IN TRAILER PARKS, TROLLING THE INTERNET IN DARK IN THEIR BASEMENTS, LURKING AROUND PLAY GROUNDS AND SALIVATING WHILE WAITING FOR THIS 62 YEAR OLD MAN'S NEXT JOKE. CONGRATULATIONS CBS YOU SHOULD BE VERY PROUD.

David Letterman should be fired.  His comments targeting Gov. Palin and her daughter were beyond tasteless   He made the statement on the air that he read the comments prior to the show and decided to go with it.  What does that tell you?   A difference in politics should never be a reason to publicly insult anyone and especially their children.  Would love to see Michelle Obama join the women of America on this one.   She could help send  the message that stupid, senseless, degrading remarks about women, regardless of their race, on national television will not be tolerated.

Facts:

 1. Dave Letterman is guilty of a tasteless joke -- shame on Dave for his wrongdoing!

 2. Sarah Palin is guilty of being a lightweight politician -- out of her league last fall!

 3. Sarah Palin is working hard to gain national media attention -- still out of her league!

 4. Letterman apologized thoroughly and completely -- he did the right thing!

 5. Right-wingers are not interested in an apology --  but might accept an Obama joke!

 6. Letterman is a talented CBS talkshow  host -- Sarah is an opportunist!

The protest goes on as scheduled:

Personally, I think people should accept his apology, even it is late, and move on.  This is not a Liberal or Conservate thing yet people twist it to fit their ideology.  People make mistakes - just most of us don't do it in front of millions of people.  I wonder how many people will show up for this protest now? Anyone who comes now simply has an ax to grind.  People say stupid things but that doesn't make him/her a bad person.  What will it say in Letterman's obituary after he dies? "He made some insensitive boneheaded joke that people never forgot."  And those people calling for his firing? Give me a break.  CBS should send him to sensitivity training - but with his luck it would probably be taught by Imus.

He apologized, offered her to come on the show. Enough! Doesn't need to grovel to this narcissistic opportunist and move on. Ziegler obviously has thing for her, probably hoping he'll get lucky.

I think Mr. Letterman needs to retired or clean his jokes, I used to watch his show, now after they way he talks about a lady which is not right, I decide not to watch hes show anymore.

Mr letterman you need to show respect for the ladies it don't matter if is democrat or republican, it does not matter if you are a joke man or not, ladies deserve respect.

Talk bad about a lady is a big NO NO

Letterman has shacked up with a former employee for 25 years.  Doesn't that just make her a full time prostitute?  He "knocked up" his shack job, so he has a bastard son as well.  He has shown them both on his show, therefore he has "put them out there" for public criticism, so they are fair game.  So, how is any of this different that what he was implying about a 14 year old girl, or an 18 year old girl, in either case, he has no room to be critical of anyone.

Will someone please tell me what Dave's joke was?  (I'm sure it was right on point, whatever it was.)
