Life in rural, or "bush", Alaska is very different but very exciting! You can only get to the bush via airplanes. In fact, to travel most anywhere in this area, you will fly on a small plane, like a Cessna Caravan. The sights you see en route are unlike any you have probably experienced! You will see smaller Eskimo (Native Alaskan) villages, tundra and rivers. One of the neatest trips you can take is to fly from Bethel, Alaska, the regional hub in the southwest part of Alaska, to the village of St. Mary's, Alaska, to the northwest. On this flight, riding in the Cessna Caravan, you will witness barren, treeless tundra, a common sight in this subarctic region, as well as areas with trees and, everybody's favorite, the mighty Yukon River! When you first glance the river, it is more awe-inspiring than any writer can describe! It's sheer power and beauty are melded together to provide you with something never forgotten! Join me, now, won't you, on this journey into a land of the north - into a land that time seems to have forgotten - from Bethel to St. Mary's in The Last Frontier of Alaska!
