Forest Whitaker and 50 Cent to Star as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

In one of the most unconvincing and bizarre casting choices in recent filmic memory, rapper 50 Cent (aka Curtis Jackson) has been chosen to star alongside Oscar-winning actor, Forest Whitaker, in yet another big screen "reimagining" of the Robert Louis Stevenson classic novella Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

Forest Whitaker will take on the role of the good Dr. Jekyll, while resident G-Unit mumbler Fiddy will portray Jekyll's "misanthropic" evil counterpart, Mr. Edward Hyde.

All this, and the movie is set to be directed by Abel Ferrara, the famed director of gritty crime drama Bad Lieutenant (which is itself being subjected to the bizarro remake treatment by none other than Werner Herzog).

But it doesn't end there.

Apparently, this isn't the only Jekyll and Hyde movie set to be remade. Another Matrix-y version is in the works starring none other than Keanu Reeves as both personalities of the title characters.

Will either version be worth the price of admission?

50 Cent is finally ready to talk about his monstrous turn in a modern-day "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" film.

"That one's coming up soon," Fif told us this week, excited about the first horror film of his young acting career, which he starts shooting at this end of the summer opposite a recent Oscar winner. "It's me and Forest Whitaker. I actually just spoke to his agent yesterday."

Forest Whitaker is perfectly capable of playing both roles himself, since he plays good guys and bad guys with equal facility. Fifty could easily just sit this one out.

(Oh, and nothing could ever beat the Anthony Perkins artsy crack-fest Edge of Sanity for pure deviant Jekyll-and-Hyde mayhem)

Casting choice and a half - strange one.
