Everyone loves a good week's end tech rumor, especially one that would see the world's biggest search company taking over the world's trendiest microblogging site.

Yes, Google has been chatting up Twitter — but don't go getting your hopes up...yet.

Before Twitter's head tweeps can think about selling out to the Googleborg they'll need to get a handle on their Biz-ness. That, of course, started with the pitting of two twits writ large against one another Thursday night as Stephen Colbert did battle with Twitter co-founder Biz Stone.

In the beleaguered Tweeting background, though, another battle has been brewing based on burbling blogs and thundering throngs of twexperts and social media speculators suggesting that Google might buy Twitter.

But would Twitter take a preposterously proffered billion dollars to have its flashy assemblage of mundane micro magic bought out

Doubtful some say. Others admit the figure could be much lower, say around $250 million.

And of course still others believe this is little more than a blog storm in a tweetcup — and that not only does Google not have plans to buy Twitter; Twitter has no plans...er...at all really.

But all this chatter must mean something, mustn't it?

Surely a future Twoogle empire can't be too far off in the interweb'd distance.

They bought YouTube and THEN started making money with it. I wouldn't be surprised if they bought twitter. It would be yet another way Google could keep tabs on what's going on our lives.
