"Futurism" fan paints the Trevi Fountain red
Something strange happened today in Rome: the famous Fontana di Trevi suddenly had red water. The media are reporting a story about a man apparently aged 50 throwing a bucket with a red liquid into the fountain and quickly disappearing in the crowd. Five policemen were in the area but weren't able to stop what was happenin, and the authorities were horrified by this act soon described as "vandalism".
Only, apparently, the red stuff is not going to really damage the Trevi Fountain, and responsibility for this action has been claimed by a "group" called "FTM Azione Futurista 2007". Apparently, this has been done as criticism against the Festa del Cinema, a film festival which - according to the futurist vandal - at 15 million Euros was a little too expensive, and also to protest against the Roman film scene which is described as "Quattro cortigiane, una vecchia gallinaccia e un puffo" ("four courtesans, an ugly old hen and a smurf").
The Trevi Fountain has been chosen of course as a symbol of Roman and Italian movie industry, since it was the location for the legendary sequence of Federico Fellini's La Dolce Vita, performed by Anita Ekberg.
Now, while the Italian press and police authorithies wonder about these "criminals" who committed this "crime" which - to my humble opinion - looks more like a Situationist prank rather than a real criminal act (but I may be wrong...), no one seems to have noticed that "FTM" are the initials for Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, founder of the original futurism movement...

At the risk of a "seeing red" pun:"Italy's Culture Minister Francesco Rutelli wants a new anti-vandalism law after a man threw a bucket of red dye into the Trevi fountain in Rome.
The man, who fled the scene, left the baroque fountain spouting red water before technicians could shut off the water supply." Source: BBC
