Gavin Rossdale Admits to Affair with Cross-Dresser 'Marilyn' in Details Interview

Gavin Rossdale, frontman for Bush and husband to Gwen Stefani, discussed details of a teenage gay love affair with a cross dressing singer named Peter Robinson, whose stage name was Marilyn. Gavin Rossdale hooked up with Marilyn when he was 17, long before he met Gwen Stefani.

Gavin Rossdale described the affair as a one-off experimentation. However, Marilyn told the press that the affair had gone on for five years. Rossdale denied every aspect of the affair when Boy George's book came out, as Bush was just beginning to grow popular in the USA.

Gavin Rossdale Regrets Sharing with Details

Boy George had discussed the Gavin Rossdale/Marilyn affair in his 1995 book Take It Like a Man, but Rossdale confirmed the rumor in an interview with Details magazine. Apparently Gavin Rossdale had a change of heart after the interview and wanted the Marilyn segment pulled from the published version, but Details ran with the whole story anyway.

I've never wanted to appear closed about it. It's not something I've talked about really because it's always been in the glare of a tabloid world. It's just one of those things: Move on. When you're 17, Jesus Christ. I don't think there's anything strange about any form of—you're learning about life. It's a part of growing up. That's it. No more, no less.
We hear this has left Rossdale with some 'splainin' to do, as far as his superstar wife is concerned.

According to our source, although Stefani has been aware of the rumors, "Gwen didn't know that Gavin and Marilyn were actually involved. Gavin always said before that they were just friends, and that's what she believed, until Gavin had to tell her" because of the interview in Details.
