George Lopez Talk Cancellation of "Lopez Tonight"
His talk show “Lopez Tonight” got the axe last night, and George Lopez explained what happened to cut his late night run short.
The veteran comedian began, “So in case you didn’t hear the news, TBS has decided not to renew Lopez Tonight. But that’s alright!”
Lopez also joked, “So hey! Did you guys see the news? Unemployment is at an all-time high and for Latinos it just got a little higher.”
“I did get some good news this morning though. Sony announced they were doing a sequel to The Smurfs movie. So today I lost some work because I’m brown, but also I got some work because I’m blue.”
George also mused, “And really almost like every TV star who loses his job. Now what am I going to do, everybody asks. What am I going to do now? Like every TV star before I’m going to find some crack. I’m going to get on the pipe. Lose that unwanted 110 pounds I’ve been trying to lose…” He concluded with, “We’re not saying goodbye. We’re saying cable doesn’t work.”
After two sub-par seasons and one time change, TBS announced the cancellation of George Lopez's late-night talk show "Lopez Tonight" yesterday.
Upon its sudden decision, the network released a statement: “TBS has reached the difficult decision not to order a third season of 'Lopez Tonight.'"
They added, “We are proud to have partnered with George Lopez, who is an immensely talented comedian and entertainer. TBS has valued its partnership with George and appreciates all of his work on behalf of the network, both on and off the air."
The show, which previously moved from 11 p.m. to midnight to accommodate Conan O'Brien's arrival, will take to the airwaves for the last time on Thursday, August 11.
In related news, George Lopez was on hand to throw out the first pitch at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday. There to promote Stand Up 2 Cancer, the 50-year-old late night host took time to praise his friend and comrade Sandra Bullock.
"If it wasn't for her involvement in me, or her belief in me, I would have had a very different last 10 years," George told People. "She invested in me, and she wouldn't take no for an answer. And with that, and just who she is, she has my undying love, and my undying loyalty. Every day I thank her for believing in me."
