Gerard Butler, Jennifer Aniston's current leading man, is now involved in a dog fight with an elderly Queens couple that say he yelled at them and slammed their dog Mayfly's head in to a fence screaming that he should be put down, when their dog touched noses with Butler's dog Lolita.

The couple Fred and Maria Varecka, were walking their greyhound near the set of Butler and Aniston's film 'The Bounty' when they came across Butler walking his dog, however the two versions of the story differ quite widely. Gerard Butler says that his dog was bitten by Mayfly on the neck and that is when he fought back.

But the Vareckas say Butler, 39, viciously barked at them when their dogs' noses touched -- then slammed Mayfly's head against a fence, screaming, "That dog should be put down!"

This incident occurred on Monday on Broadway near 14th street in Long Island City, and the couple said that they came across Gerard Butler with his dog not on a leash.
Maria Varecka says that she said to him:

'Your dog should be put on a leash.' He kept on going and going, ranting and raving. . . . He was being verbally abusive."

It was then that he reportedly smashed their dog's head in to the fence.
The Vareckas called the cops and filed a complaint against Butler, but no citations were given. Butler's manager said it was blown out of context however.

"What happened was, Gerry was walking his dog, Lolita, who is this little, small pug, a teeny thing. You can hold her in one arm, she's that small," said his manager, Alan Siegel. "Then, suddenly, this greyhound, this huge, menacing dog, bites Lolita.

"She [Maria Varecka] and Gerry then have words. . . . [Then] the dog again goes over to Lolita and takes another bite."

Butler took his dog to an Upper East Side animal hospital and even reportedly paid $3,000 to another family to cover their vet bills at the same clinic.
