Gerry Ryan, Host of The Gerry Ryan Show on RTE Radio Found Dead in His Dublin Home
Gerry Ryan was found dead at the age of 53 in his Dublin home on Friday April 30, but his death is not being treated as suspicious according to The Telegraph.
Ryan's friend called police when he could not gain access to his friend's apartment and that is when police reportedly found Ryan in his bedroom, but it is not known at this time if he was already dead.
''Mr Ryan was found dead in his apartment in Upper Lesson this morning,'' a senior Garda source said.
Ryan had split from his wife Morah, but he is survived by her and his five children.
RTE released a statement on behalf of Mr. Ryan's family:
Gerry Ryan died today. Morah and his children are in complete shock. Please respect their privacy at this time
Brian Cowen, the Taoiseach of Ireland also released a statement:
'Gerry was a household name and a broadcaster of immense talent and popularity. His legion of fans will all be greatly shocked to hear this sad news.
'He will be hugely missed by all those who had the good fortune to know him.'
Gerry Ryan joined RTE in 1988, but began his career in pirate radio. However, when he joined RTE and began the Gerry Ryan Show it quickly became one of the most popular morning shows in the country. Mr. Ryan also went on to host TV shows and his own chat show called Ryan Confidential and then another called Operation Transformation.
