Glenn Beck Anthony Weiner Goldline Feud:

Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner released a report Tuesday saying that Goldline International Inc. "rips off consumers, uses misleading and possibly illegal sales tactics, and deliberately manipulates public fears of an impending government takeover."

Goldline President and CEO Mark Albarian denied the charges.

The company, headquartered in Santa Monica, Calif., sells bars and coins made of gold, silver and platinum to investors and collectors, its website says.

For the past two days, Beck has hit back at the congressman, claiming on the air that Weiner's tactics evoke the late red-baiting Sen Joe McCarthy "Now we have a congressman actually trying on the shoes of McCarthy," Beck said Wednesday morning. On Tuesday he railed that "we are in full-fledged McCarthy Land now.

For some time Beck critics have cried foul over his relationship with Goldline International, a precious metals vendor that features the TV and radio host's endorsement prominently on their website. Critics charge that Beck is guilty of misleading his audience by often advising them to purchase gold in advance of the potential collapse of the value of the dollar on the world currency market, without disclosing that he is in fact a "paid spokesman" for Goldline.
