Google's Got Your Kid's Back

The Internet giant's plan to keep children safe online.

Google and Common Sense Media have launched a video to help your kids stay safe while surfing the Web. Here are their top tips:

  • Keep it central:
  • The computer should stay in a central location so you can watch your kids as they're using it. Make sure they're not pulling any marathon sessions; the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no more than one to two hours of screen time for kids.

  • Know where they go: Check where your kids have been surfing by checking the browser history. If any questionable sites pop up, you'll know enough to talk to them.
  • Safety hints:Instruct your kids not to post their name, address or password online. Teach them to use privacy controls on their social networking sites, so that only friends can post comments or photos. And before teens even have a chance to think about it, warn them that college admissions committees and future employers can and will see any nude or drunken photos they allow to be taken of themselves.

good stuff:

momlogic, I like this story. It's important in this internet age to keep an eye on what your children will see online as it's so easy to stumble across something that's not suitable for them.
