Deadheads rejoice!

For the first time in 5 years, surviving members of the Grateful Dead will regroup for a concert tour beginning on April 12, 2009.

The group, which formed in 1965 and gained a loyal following for their bluegrass/country/experimental music style, is now known simply as The Dead.  Original guitarist Jerry Garcia passed away in 1995, and Warren Haynes will take the reins as lead guitarist.

Original band members Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann have toured sporadically since the 1995 death of guitarist Jerry Garcia, but struggled to get along personally and artistically. They told Rolling Stone in November that they've worked out their differences, aided by a successful October benefit concert in Pennsylvania for then-presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Warren Haynes joins the Dead on lead guitar, and Jeff Chimenti will play keyboards.

Here are the 19 scheduled dates for The Dead's 2009 US tour:

Happy news! I saw Phil Lesh and Friends in 1999.  About time to see them again. Too bad they aren't coming to Vancouver.

I was fortunate to see them perform a number of times. It was always quite an evening.

I never saw them but they are a very good band.  I wish them more success.

Be great for the deadheads...but it's just not the same without Jerry Garcia....

I will be able to gage the health of the economy by how many seats they sell, lol.

If they sell out, the economy is still stable.

I forecast the economy a bit differently than others, lol.

Hurray for the 'dead.

I followed the Dead for quite a few years when i lived in the states and went to many shows..i think its awesome they are playing again but it wont be the same without Jerry.I am gutted that i will be stuck in the UK but hope they put on a good show for all the die hard deadheads(myself included)...show the teenagers some real music.Keep on truckin.
