Rock legends The Grateful Dead are reportedly set to reunite in support of Barack Obama reports the NME.  Obama's aide Jim Messina announced the possible reunion that should see Dead Heads from across the US trying to get a ticket to what might be called 'Obama's Gig'.

It could spark a number of other bands to pin their flags to Obama's campaign in a similar fashion to the way that Tony Blair courted bands before and just after his election to power except that those bands were new, young and vibrant at the heart of the 'Cool Britania' movement. The Grateful Dead are none of the above but even without dead leader Jerry Garcia might still pass for cool.

The Grateful Dead may reunite in October, in an effort to promote the campaign of Barack Obama for President of the United States.

The legendary band will reportedly get back together on October 13 to raise money for the democrat’s campaign.

I got to sit down one night at a Mexican restaurant with Jerry Garcia before he went to one of his concerts in Oakland. We ate, talked, and then he left to go play.

It was an interesting evening!

An impromptu show at the Melkweg theatre in Amsterdam in 1981, only advertised on the night itself. News spread fast so there was an audience of about 500 (!)
