Guns N' Roses Chinese Democracy arrives
The much anticipated release of 'Chinese Democracy' by Guns N' Roses happens this Sunday November 23rd - this is the band's first release in 17 years.
Dr. Pepper is also giving everyone a free bottle of the soda that day when they log on to the Dr. Pepper website. The company promised this to everyone if 'Chinese Democracy' was released anytime in 2008.
Aside from the Guns N' Roses album, this is also the week when Tom Jones will realease his first record in 15 years.
Add to that a new one from the multiplatinum neo-’80s band the Killers and you’ve got one of the biggest release weeks of the year. Here’s a review of the results:
So Big Foot has finally arrived — that mythic beast few believed they’d ever see in their lifetimes. Yes folks, we’re talking “Chinese Democracy,” an album so often promised, and just as often delayed, it turned Guns N’ Roses leader Axl Rose into the ultimate man who cried wolf.
The reviews are mixed, but it seems there is a lot of hype around this album purely for the nostalgia when Guns N' Roses were huge and really meant something to their listeners. Whether it translates to now, remains to be seen.

Have you listened to it yet, Amy? I'm hearing mixed reports about it.

I have not listened to it - except for the title song. Personally - I found it to be not very good. But then, I never was a GNR fan to begin with...

This is the worst piece of S**t i have ever heard. $14 million wasted. Unreal...

I listened to it today... it's really good, though clearly the product of an overlong production process: if anything, there's too much going on in each song, and I miss Slash's guitar. Having said that, it's an excellent rock 'n' roll record, and well worth a listen.

I like the title!

no offense to any gnr fans, but this is dated the second you hear it. i think the tom jones record will have more of an impact...lol.
it's uber generic, not an original lick to be heard...18 years on the work by bands like Unsane, Jesus Lizard, the Cows, Butthole Surfers etc is fresher, more envelope pushing, and groundbreaking...
sorry - imo it's a lemon...

My favorite is 'classical' but sometimes i want to change my mood into a modern tempo...
At a time when pop was dominated by music and pop-metal 'Guns N' Roses' arrived. :)

I think it's a good album. It doesn't have the spontaneous energy or fun of their earlier work, but it's got a lot of interesting stuff going on.
Here's how New York Magazine thinks it could have been improved:
