British actress Hayley Atwell is playing Peggy Carter as Captain America's love interest in the upcoming film "Captain America." Also considered were Emily Blunt and Keira Knightley, but Hayley Atwell got the role after a screen testing in London.

Captain America is played by Chris Evans, who was in Fantastic Four. Sebastian Stan will play Captain America's sidekick Bucky Barnes. The cast of the villain Red Skull is still in negotiation; will likely be Hugo Weaving.

The character Atwell will play is named Peggy Carter, who in comics lore not only dated Captain America but was an agent helping the French Resistance. She later became the aunt of Sharon Carter, Captain America’s love in modern times.

Hayley Atwell appeared in The Duchess, Bridgeshead Revisited, and Cassandra's Dream. She was born in London, UK; studied at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Atwell recently appeared in the remake of "The Prisoner" as Lucy, and will be in "The Pillars of the Earth" as Aliena.

Emily Blunt reportedly declined Marvel Studios offer for the role as leading actress in Captain America.
