NP Rank:
Heath Ledger's trophy is for daughter Matilda
There was something about this year's Golden Globes Awards that brought a gloomy sighing from everybody's lips when the Best Supporting Actor Award was conferred to Heath Ledger. The crowd rose to its feet as Ledger was named, the first standing ovation of the night.
As his family couldn't be there the award was accepted by "Dark Knight" director Christopher Nolan, who made the touching remark:"He will be eternally missed, but he will never be forgotten."
The actor's mother heard about her son's Golden globe win when she was boarding a flight to Australia saying A "few tears" were shed.
From her home in Peth, Australia Sally Pell gave an interview for People admitting: "I should imagine that [the trophy] eventually it will be going to Matilda. At this stage she is only so young, but down the track she will have all these things. It will belong to her because she is part of him."
Bell also added her entire family was "bursting with pride" over son's acknowledgement for playing the controversial Joker, a role he "loved".
"It is such a fantastic and wonderful legacy for his daughter. Matilda will have so many people who will be able to speak to her about her father's abilities and [the] respect he had in the industry. That is such a wonderful legacy to leave," she says.
Heath , 28, was found dead in his New York apartment, last year, after taking an overdose of prescription drugs.
