Heterosexual Awareness Month: Homophobes Own July
Apparently, Heterosexuals have an awareness month, as if people weren't already "aware".
If heterosexuals can have an awareness month, why can't we have Ignorant Narrow Minded Bigoted Asshole Awareness Month?
According to their Facebook page, Heterosexual Awareness Month is a month-long annual observance of straight people, and the growing struggle of the rights and related civil rights put in jeopardy. It is observed during July every year.
The first annual Heterosexual Awareness Month began this year, July 2012. Straight Pride Day was held on July 6th, 2012, where followers of Heterosexual Awareness Month wore black.
I, however, was not aware that there was any violence or animosity against straight people. Illegalizing gay marriage and gay relationships and gay bars is not going to stop people from being gay.
I'm afraid to search for Same Race Relationship Awareness Month for fear I might actually find something.
Do you know why people are against homosexuality? Because they are afraid of it. Homophobes are afraid to see a different lifestyle in front of them. It wasn't until 1967 that interracial marriages were legalized because people were afraid of it.
Giving someone else equal rights does not infringe or take rights away from you. It just makes it illegal for you to enforce your prejudice or hate. It's that simple.

What's the point of this article? If you're gay you're cool but anyone else doesn't have the right to celebrate their sexuality? Why are gays which comprise 3% of the population allowed to harass and intimidate the general public businesses and even force the introduction of their lifestyle? Why? If you believe in Evolution than this would have to be a dead end survival strategy that does nothing to insure the survival of a species. So it must be an aberration.

This article is GREAT--it so eloquently displays the HYPOCRISY among so many gay activists. You fight for your rights while mocking and attempting to malign those of others. How many gay pride parades are held annually in the U.S.? Why do you feel the need to oppose "heterosexual awareness month", and defame those who may choose to participate? Are you "afraid" of heterosexuals? Are you a Heterophobe? If you want to participate in public discourse on this subject, you might choose to do so intelligently and respectfully. Your name calling and mocking the legal rights of others does nothing to advance your cause. . .only paints a very nasty, intolerant and hypocritical picture of you and the social segment you have chosen to represent.

I am curious why if we support gays and eastern religion and all other kinds of things that are being shoved in face, we are opened minded and wonderful. However if we stand for our faith in Christ we are close minded and hate ful or bigots. I listen and hear and disagree is that not my right? Because I disagree I am wrong?? I think all these little problems stem from a bigger one, we would not be fighting over equal rights if we were already equal. The goverment grows as we are unemployed we openly support a "Robin Hood " type of tax and wonder why "Big Bussiness" send Job else were and hides their money. We make a comparision between gay and race rights????????? This blows my mind, A wise person once said, "don't be so opened minded that your brain falls out". We need to face the FACTS (contrary to all the back and forth studies) gay is a choice race is not gay is a lifestyle race is life, but hey I just one of those BIGOT and hatemongers. (no I am not) I choose to disagree with a lifestyle that is all I dont want to go beat anyone or hate anyone, I just want to get along with life. Marriage has always been a religious practice, but were not fighting over a religious freedom we are fighting over the TAX Shelter of Marriage And if there were no income TAX we would not have a fight at all. BUT wait we would because the self professed "open minded" of the world want to show the appointed "bigots" of the world they have rights (to be a Idiots). But I guess a reply to this blog is support of the writer but I have the right to be a idiot too

The posts of the commenters aside, and the things I would love to, if i had unlimited time and energy, discuss more thoroughly, I would perhaps focus on the original article, and offer my bit of insight as to why the concept of Heterosexual Awareness Month is laughable--too laughable to be offensive. The concept that REALLY makes me guffaw is the use of the word "awareness." "Let's all take a moment to remember that heterosexuals exist. Let's try and imagine a world where heterosexuals live like the rest of us, in peace and security."Like, does this not sound ridiculous to you? Because the empowered majority, by definition, does not NEED to raise awareness. Heterosexuality is represented in a landslide majority of the media. Every single romantic comedy, with its always-straight, usually-white star-crossed 20-somethings. Every action film, where a strong male lead saves and wins the girl. These are the mainstream. So, no, you don't get to act oppressed and sad because of this article. No, you don't get to act like I'm being "heterophobic" you by telling you that this is stupid. No, you definitely don't get to have a heterosexual awareness month. For the same reason that you don't get to shout "White Power."You don't need straight pride parades. You live in a straight pride world. And, here's the part that REALLY sucks, so do we.As non-heterosexuals, we are ALSO constantly bombarded with your world of straight sexuality. That I get one weekend a year where I get to pretend that I am not othered and excluded by your culture is a huge relief. That I get to hold my boyfriend's hand and not be afraid for one moment of being shouted at, or threatened, or ATTACKED? That I get to connect with a collection of other people, from all kinds of lives, who share some aspect of my experience. That is an important social construct, a safe and comfortable space that the non-hetero-normative community has worked hard over many years to establish. So, if you are able to provide to me a reason that heterosexuality is in some way under-represented, that there are insufficient safe spaces for heterosexuals, or that heterosexuals need MORE representation in the world, then maybe we can talk about giving you a month to raise awareness, but as long as you're the privileged majority, I think you can just settle for the 11 Heterosexual Awareness Months that you already have.
