From Hi-Fi to Wi-Fi Michael Bublé connects fans around the globe
We have all heard about the great social networks Facebook, Myspace , Twitter that are at our disposal, and I began to wonder if they were going to facilitate our social relationships or the expedite the downfall of our social skills.
Oddly enough I found out from an unlikely online source. I joined the Michael Bublé forum boards, with a bit of apprehension, and skepticism. There were approximately 9,000 members when I signed up in April of 2008. I began reading posts and then posting my own thoughts about Michael Bublé, and his music.
The now infamous Canadian crooner has managed to make great music, give re-birth to American standards, and woo women across the globe. He has connected with his fans across six out of the seven continents with the power of his voice and by exposing his soul. His fans channel snippets from interviews and sing lyrics from his songs as they move about their daily routines to make them bearable, and as an escape in times of turmoil. His fans have also connected with each other from those same continents. They share their humor, love of music, and sincere interest in one another via the information super-highway.
With computers on, and fingers poised, we wait for time zones to merge and create a pathway for friends in various countries to log-on. One by one our screen names appear in the chat room. We exchange pleasantries. Then laughter immediately ensues. The conversation usually begins with Bublé, but it quickly deviates to personal anecdotes and proud accomplishments.
Being on the Michael Bublé board has changed my life, and my opinion. On a daily basis I speak with friends from the UK, Canada, Poland and Argentina; as well as Florida, and New Jersey. On occasion I chat with fans from Australia. We share our joy, and our sorrows, our anxiety, and our love for Bublé. Our appreciation for Michael Bublé and his music has connected us on a level unparalleled by ‘face to face’ relationships.
For people to socialize is necessary and what I once thought was impersonal has now become my norm. The art of letter writing is not dwindling; it is just evolving into a technologically efficient reply. One post on the Michael Bublé forum stated, “…people remain on the Michael Bublé forum because he has the best fans.” I think that person was right.
