I recently tried to explain to my husband the phenomenon of internet social networks.  He didn’t get it.  “Talk to real live people, go out with your friends, call your sister”, he’d reply.  No, he didn’t get it at all.  Talk to real people; I pondered that.  I keep hearing about all these great social networks-   www.facebook.comwww.myspace.com , www.twitter.com , and wondering if they are going to be what connects us all-or the decline of our social skills.

Then oddly enough, it happened to me.  I found one that worked in my life, and it came from an odd source.  With pure curiosity, I joined the Michael Bublé forum boards; gave myself a cute screen name-following suit with what others had done, and began posting about my favorite artist and his music.

“Michael Bublé soothes my soul”. I read the post and thought to myself- mine too.  I read another, “I keep CDs in the car, he’s on my I-pod, and I have him on my phone too.”  I thought, oh me too!  These people knew how I felt!

The now famous Canadian crooner, has managed to make great music, gave  re-birth to standards from generations ago, and woo women across the globe.  Somehow he has connected with each and every one of his fans.  From the US to the UK, Paris to Rome, Poland to Croatia, the Philippines, and Australia-one man has touched them all.  By the power of his voice, and the art of his talent, every fan I have ever spoken with has had their life somehow touched.

But there is more......I am a fan. An avid fan.  I am a www.MichaelBublé.com   forum member along with 9,000 plus other members.  Being on the Michael Bublé board has changed my life.  Speaking with other fans has made me grow as a person.  Channeling snippets from interviews and lyrics from his songs, his fan-base pushes each other forward through their daily lives.  Michael connects with his fans, and now his fans connect with each other.

What started out simply as a visit to the Bublé board forum has turned a relatively obscure fan into a contributing member in the “Michaelcosm” known as  Bubléland.  I post my thoughts and feelings, my jokes, and on occasion needed advice to others.  I filled my downtime with Bublé related tasks- edit Michael’s Wiki page; upkeep the Bublé dictionary, contribute to the board forum topics.  Then something changed.  I began going on the forum, to chat, to find others like me, and our common bond is Bublé. We share our humor, our love of music and our genuine interest in each other's lives across the information superhigway.

From half across the globe I speak daily with BubléSue and Elbub33 in the UK.  We share  our joy, and our sorrows, our anxiety and elation (or bublelation!) and our love for Bublé.  I also work the time zones to my advantage and speak with Canadian fans and some from Argentina.  We all on rare occasions chat on-line simultaneously.  Again the common bond that brought us all together is Bublé.  Somehow our fandom has changed into friendship.  His music touched us, and now we touch each other’s lives.

So as I wait with computer on, and fingers poised, for the fans from the UK to log-on, albeit near midnight for them; when they do, we chat.  And then shortly after, the fans from Canada arrive.  I log on midday to catch a Polish fan in her early evening.  I stay up later to catch the Canadian fans too!  As I sat on my computer with a frenzy at the keyboard, I would laugh-literally, out loud as we discussed all things Bublé related or not.  One announced the engagement of her son!  Antoher the landing of a new job.  Recently a fellow board member completed her Nursing Degree.  It became less about Bublé and more about the people.

I’ve learned a lot about the people on the boards.  I’ve learned a lot about me.  I’ve learned a lot about Michael Bublé.  I have read somewhere in a post that “people remain on the Michael Bublé forum because he has the best fans”-I think so.

To socialize is necessary, and what I once thought as impersonal has now become my norm.  The art of letter writing is not dwindling; it is just evolving into a technologically efficient reply.  I sit before my computer in a cyber chat with virtual buddies and think to myself-“look at what I have been missing!”

Mind you Michael Bublé is still a hot topic of conversation, but his fans have connected to each other; and this is because he gives it his all and connects with his fans.
