Hillary "Balboa" Clinton challenges Obama to bowl-off
Proving she's not just a one-trick politician, Hillary Clinton tried her hand at stand-up Tuesday.
Not only did she liken herself to Rocky Balboa during a Pennsylvania union meeting, Hillary also challenged Obama to a bowl-off during a press conference.
Is the cocky comedy a calculated attempt to defrost her public image, or does Clinton simply have bowling game? It's not bragging if it's true, right?
"Today, I am challenging Senator Obama to a bowl-off," Clinton said, provoking relieved laughs from the assembled scribes.
Clinton carried on, making reference to Obama's disastrous outing at a Pennsylvania bowling alley Saturday.
"A bowling night. Right here in Pennsylvania. The winner take all," she went on. "I'll even spot him two frames."
"It is time for his campaign to get out of the gutter and allow all thepins to be counted. I'm prepared to play this game all the way to the10th frame," she said.
"When this game is over, the American people will know that whenthat phone rings at 3 a.m., they'll have a president ready to bowl onday one."
"Let's strike a deal and go bowling for delegates. We don't have a moment to spare, because it's already April Fool's Day.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Perhaps the analogy was inevitable: Hillary Rodham Clinton as Rocky Balboa, the scrappy underdog boxer from Philadelphia memorably depicted in the 1976 Oscar-winning film. Even if Rocky did lose his first big fight. Addressing a meeting of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO Tuesday, the former first lady and New York senator said that she, like Rocky, wasn't a quitter.
Recalling a famous scene on the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Clinton said that ending her presidential campaign now would be as if "Rocky Balboa had gotten halfway up those art museum steps and said, 'Well, I guess that's about far enough.'"
"Let me tell you something, when it comes to finishing a fight, Rocky and I have a lot in common. I never quit. I never give up. And neither do the American people," Clinton said.
