The Hills Series Finale (Season 6 Episode 12) Aired on July 13 on MTV But Some Fans Are Very Upset About the Ending of the Show and the Suggestion it Was All Fake

Many will argue that The Hills was never meant to be a show about reality, but about glamorous people living in Los Angeles leading exciting lives and interacting with other glamorous beautiful people. As cast members have said over the years, it was scripted and directed, and even though these people were real, their life on the show was most likely not.

However, fans of The Hills and shows like it (such as The City) know all of this, but what perhaps made the show so interesting and fun to watch was the relationships between the cast. Ok, so the locations may be staged and everyone is styled to perfection, but many gravitated towards the show to watch the characters interact with each other.

Well the producers wanted to send a clear message to all Hills fans during the finale when the ending showed Brody waving goodbye to Kristin. Then the background starts to move and the camera pans out and you realize they are on a soundstage and Kristin didn't drive anywhere as she gets out of the car and hugs Brody after. You can see the lights, the crew, the cameras and see that the whole thing is fake or staged.

Does this mean the entire show was fake?

During the After Show Brody Jenner said:

"The thing is, as you saw on the end -- what's real and what's fake, you don't know," Jenner explained to MTV during the live after show program. "Our relationship, the entire time could have been fake," he said.

Apparently Kristin is going to go traveling though, that is real.

Jenner went on to say:

"I think the show has always battled with what's real and what's fake, and this ending was perfect because you still don't know what was real, what was fake and it's kind of like L.A. in a sense. I thought it was very clever and I was happy with it. I was stoked they were ending it with me. I was flattered."

So is it real? Well, yes and no. "I would say it's entertainment and just enjoy it; don't question it too much. There were a lot of moments that were real and a lot of moments that were not so real."

Even Lauren Conrad addressed the 'fake' issue when she appeared on the After Show. When asked if she would ever show The Hills to her children she kind of laughed and said 'It never existed'. Fans will have to make up their own minds about what she means about that.

Kristin also gave an interview to People Magazine and she implied the whole show was fake saying:

Nothing you see on TV is real,” Cavallari, 23, tells PEOPLE. “Fans need to understand it’s all entertainment. It’s all in fun. I would never put my close friends or a real relationship on a show.”

She goes on to say that she wouldn't give away any secrets because she doesn't want to disappoint the fans as she knows some of them take the show seriously.

So what did you think of The Hills ending? Did you always think the show was fake or are you disappointed in how the producers chose to end the six seasons?

Im so disappointing because i so thought the show was real...im so boomed right now. After seeing the camera mens i was so shocked to believe that it was not real all along. So all this years i have been watching a fake show. I still cant believe it was fake. Anyways i loved the show, i watched it from the beginning to the end and it was real good even though it was fake. Nice show.

Ummm i hated the ending so much, like, why does it end with brody and kristens relationship and how they are gonna miss eachother or whatever... they shouldve shown the GIRLS at the end together.. I dont understand why they would show brody of all people. Stupid..

I'm sure some of it was scripted. But I thought that other parts weren't! It kind of sucks thinking it was fake because I also watch The City and now I can't exactly watch it the same way as I use to because I know it's fake!

I watched the finale on demand, and let me tell you! When they showed Brody and the screen moved and they panned out and you could see they were on a sound stage, my mouth hit the floor! I was TOTALLY SHOCKED! My mouth stayed on the floor even after it was over!!!! I had to rewind it and watch it again! and I was still in total shock! That WAS THE BEST ENDING EVER!!!!! BEST ENDING I HAVE EVER SEEN ON A SHOW! I know it had to SHOCK a lot of people! I knew it was kinda fake, b/c they said some of it was, but I had NO IDEA the whole thing was fake! GOOD ONE! PROPS TO MTV!!!!!! YOU TOTALLY OUTDID YOURSELVES ON THIS FINALE!!!! ROCK ON!!! I have NEVER been so shocked with a show or a finale! :) GREAT JOB!

I'm bummed, I always enjoyed watching the show and was like; wow, they live in LA and have an amazing life fair enough they had their fall outs and rough patches but it always seemed real, you would always see the girls out with the backdrop of LA and then it was kind of a let down and a dissappointment when at the end all it was, was some concrete buildings and a tv set and a background picture of LA. i was gutted.. plus, i think they should have had an hour episode and at the end it should have been all the girls together, including Lauren and maybe Whitney.. they seemed to wrap things up very quickly like Audrina suddenly buying the beach house? that was quick.. and also Kristen making her mind up so fast that she wanted to move away..
