Hitler's Mein Kamp to be Republished in Germany, New Version
Adolf Hitler's book Mein Kampf is going to be republished in Germany in a new version, an annotated version with historical notes to be used in schools and for teaching purposes.
Mein Kampf was banned in Germany after WWII and the copyright claim, held by the state of Bavaria, ends in 2015, 70 years after Hitler died in a Berlin bunker. In the post-1945 German constitution, "the dissemination of Nazi philosophy has been a crime" and is punished by fines and a prison sentence.
The IfZ, the Institute of Contemporary History in Munich asked to publish this annotated version.
The finance ministry in Bavaria said it had still not decided whether to give its permission but it is understood that with the lapse in copyright, the IfZ will not need the green light from it. "Besides, we think our version, with sensible notes and comments pointing out the falsity of much of what he wrote, will be far better than neo-Nazis putting out their own versions," said the IfZ.
The Jewish leaders in Germany have supported this idea as they say it:
"would prevent neo-Nazi from profiteering from Mein Kampf. while an aggressive and enlightening engagement with the book would doubtless remove many of its false, persisting myths".
During the reign of the Third Reich, Mein Kampf outsold The Bible.
Mein Kampf, meaning 'my struggle', was written while Hitler was imprisoned after his failed revolution in Munich in 1923. There is a volume 1 and volume 2.
In the book, Hitler describes what he calls the 'Jewish peril', saying that Jewish people are on a mission to take over the world. It has been studied for many reasons, but it is mainly read to gain a glimpse in to Hitler's increasing anti-Semetic and military mind frame.

"During the reign of the Third Reich, Mein Kampf outsold The Bible" ... this makes good sense, since the German division of the Catholic church allocated holy-days in Hitler's honor. The man, a scoundrel, was elevated to divine heights within the German propaganda machine. Outside of Germany, people just wondered what the hell it was (the book). The man was a right wing reactionist (fascist) financed by the German military industrial complex. People paint Hitler as the only scoundrel involved, which makes him a convenient scapegoat to spare other guilty parties. Today, we should be hearing the echoes of history ... but we have been entrained to consider only the frilly, partially clad pop icons in our daily thoughts ...

It should be required reading if only as a cautionary tale against radical extremism. It explains a mindset. Understanding a mindset is key to rebuttal and overcoming bigotry etc.
