On Wednesday, Vivid and Wicked productions stopped filming, along with some other smaller companies, and on Thursday two more major porn studios followed.

The clinic who confirmed the porn actor's HIV status, said it would take about two weeks to see if anyone else has been infected.

More porn studios are expected to follow as the fear grows that this could have spread to other actors in other studios.

"We've halted all productions until we can do whatever we can to find out who this actor has been in contact with," chief executive Samantha Lewis told AFP, adding: "There probably will more companies coming on board."

She also said that the infected actor is a male, and it is believed he contracted the virus off the set. She also confirmed that he has not worked on any Digital Playground's shoots.

"We're hearing that it came from a completely non-industry related situation. We're hoping that that does prove to be true and that we have no worries," she said.

This story has renewed calls for porn studios to force actors to wear condoms in all movies.

"How many more people have to be infected with HIV before Los Angeles County steps in to do its job and protect performers' and the public's health?" asked Michael Weinstein, president of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation.
