Hollywood celebrities who chose the worst husbands
As we all know, being rich and famous can attract the wrong crowd. These successful women faltered in their choices of husband and suffered publicly as a result.
This is perhaps the saddest case of a female celebrity who was brought down by her choice of partner. Ever since debuting her powerful vocals in 1992's The Bodyguard, Whitney Houston has captivated audiences around the globe. It's fair to say that many would consider her one of the greatest singers of the 21st century. Unfortunately, love for bad boy Bobby Brown would derail not only Whitney's career but her life as a whole.
When the rising star of Whitney Houston met Bobby Brown in 1989, the "New Edition" singer already had three children by three different women. Despite his reputation, Whitney was blinded by love, and three years later they tied the knot. From here Houston's singing career soared, and it wouldn't be until the late 90's that trouble began to brew in the Whitney/Bobby union. The music superstar suddenly began no-showing appearances and acting strangely in public. Speculation of drug use became rampant. Unfortunately for Whitney fans, this possibility turned out to be the case. In 2000 Houston and Brown were busted for marijuana possession at a Hawaiian airport. That same year Whitney was scheduled to perform at the Academy Awards but was fired prior to the gig due to poor rehearsals.
In 2002 Whitney Houston did the infamous interview with ABC's Diane Sawyer. Instead of promoting her upcoming album, the singer's erratic behavior and language became the focal point of the segment. As a result it became the highest-rated television interview in history. When Sawyer brought up the topic of drugs, namely crack, Houston snapped back that "crack was cheap", implying she had the money for its more expensive ingredient, namely cocaine. Following the airing of the interview on ABC, everyone knew something was very wrong with Whitney Houston. She was now a shadow of her former self, her voice sounding hoarse and strained. When her husband appeared in public, he would also act erratically.
Whitney Houston eventually surrendered the attitude and diva-like antics by checking into rehab, once in 2004 and again in 2005, according to Msnbc.
In 2006 Whitney finally divorced Bobby Brown. It was something that had been a long time coming, especially for her family members. Now fans patiently await a real comeback from the Grammy award-winning singer.
As a tremendously successful pop star, Britney Spears' rush to judgment might have resulted in her infamous meltdown of 2007. What her emotions definitely did do was lead her to marry a back-up dancer whom she'd only been dating for a number of months. Upon getting friendly with Kevin Federline, Britney Spears began showing off her new boyfriend to the world with PDA-filled outings. Nicknamed "K-Fed", Spears' new chain-smoking beau could almost always be seen wearing a white tank top, baggy shorts, and sandals. Unfortunately for Britney and her legion of fans, K-Fed came with some baggage. He had apparently left then-girlfriend Shar Jackson to be with Spears, and not only did the two have a child together, Jackson was pregnant with their second.
In June of 2004 it was announced that Britney and Kevin were engaged. The "One More Time" singer had reportedly proposed first, with Federline shooting down the offer so that he himself could pop the question. Like the public, Spears' fans were surprised by the engagement, considering she had only been with K-Fed for a number of months. Still, skeptics were willing to give them a shot before immediately dismissing the idea.
Two years and two kids later, Britney and Kevin would go their separate ways. At the time the news wasn't a shock, as both partners appeared to be on separate pages. In their divorce settlement, Britney's ex husband was to receive $300,000 for every year they were married, or roughly $30,000/month. Such alimony seems outrageous, but considering that Spears' empire is worth over $100 million, it's a very good thing she had the brains to sign a pre-nup.
When the "Desperate Housewife" star married Tony Parker, everyone saw a beautiful actress and her French prince charming heading towards happily ever after. Now, a few years later, it's since been revealed
that Parker was sneaking around. In December of 2010 the surprising news broke that Eva Longoria had filed for divorce after she caught Parker going behind her back, at least electronically. The Spurs guard had supposedly been exchanging messages with his teammate's soon-to-be ex wife for over a year. The actress had discovered her devious husband's secret when he failed to shut down the programs on the computer one night. Devastated, Eva saw the exchanges as grounds to end their marriage, and she immediately filed papers in Los Angeles.
Elizabeth Edwards, established attorney and book author, passed away last month after a years-long battle with breast cancer. Prior to her death, 61-year-old Elizabeth had also endured a struggle of another kind. Her husband, former Senator John Edwards, had engaged in an affair with a campaign videographer by the name of Rielle Hunter. Though the mother of four was able to maintain her composure in public, it was obvious to everyone that the tabloid stories were true. Somehow the disgust for Edwards would intensify when reports of a love child surfaced. Shockingly, they would prove factual, and after initially denying it, the Senator admitted he had fathered a daughter out of wedlock. People were even more disturbed to learn that this occurred at a time when Elizabeth Edwards was at home fighting stage four breast cancer. At first the disgraced politician tried to say that his child with Hunter was conceived while his wife's disease was in remission. Yet a clear time line would later prove he was lying.
Despite being dragged through the mud, Elizabeth Edwards may have gotten the last laugh. John is currently being investigated for using campaign funds to cover up his affair, and he was also left out of his late wife's will.
On March 7th, 2010, a much adored Sandra Bullock took the stage to accept an Oscar for her role in The Blind Side. In her speech she thanked husband Jesse James, who was in the audience smiling back at her. Unfortunately for Bullock, this joyous moment would be followed by a devastating blow. The husband whom she adored and praised would be revealed as a serial cheater. Everybody was stunned. Upon learning of the news, Sandra immediately packed up her things and moved out of the couple's home. She remained out of sight as more shocking details were published in the tabloids, thanks to James' primary mistress Michelle McGee. Looking for her 15 minutes of fame, the tattooed biker chick held nothing back in describing her relationship with Sandra's husband. Upon learning of his double life, the public was just as disgusted as they were shocked. Jesse James reportedly had a fetish for women with tattoos and would search for them on the Internet. Following the publicity of Michelle McGee's story, several other women came out of the woodwork with similar accounts. James didn't deny any of them. The public felt betrayed and even angry at the deception. How could he do this to America's sweetheart?
Thankfully we wouldn't need to hear from the cheater, since Sandra Bullock filed for divorce shortly after the initial story broke. For me, the Jesse James cheating scandal and subsequent divorce are two of the most shocking headlines to ever come out of Hollywood. Though he looked like a bad boy, James certainly did a good job of making people think otherwise. In reality, Sandra Bullock's husband was a selfish nymphomaniac.
As an iconic supermodel, Christie Brinkley was hit like a ton of bricks when her husband's philandering ways were exposed in 2006. Not only had hubby Peter Cook stepped out on her, he had done so with a 19 year old! Diana Bianchi was an employee at Cook's architecture firm when she supposedly started receiving advances from the 47-year-old. According to Fox News, Christie's husband had given the girl extravagant gifts such as a car and jewelry. 19-year-old Bianchi would later say she felt pressured to engage in a relationship with him.
Two months after details of her husband's humiliating behavior were published, Christie Brinkley filed for divorce. Peter Cook expressed sorrow over his marriage ending, but it was clear to everyone that the former supermodel deserved much more than this creepy loser for a husband.
