I am so shocked to learn that Heidi Fleiss, the famous "Hollywood Madam" has been arrested in our quiet community!  I have just come back from Brenda's Hairdressing Salon and someone (nameless for now) came in and made the announcement.

And yes it is true!  How could this have happened and no one was told - certainly no one at my church group...how can this happen?

Now that I have searched around, this is what I have found:

Pahrump, which is near Crystal, or the other way around, has a bunch of brothels, but none populated by male prostitutes. Nonetheless, the locals react to Fleiss like a bunch of New England blue stockings finding the devil himself setting up a lemonade stand in their midst. Most seem concerned about the remnants of Fleiss' notoriety reflecting badly on their community, but others, including some puffy old homer whose job is the brothel commissioner, or something similar (sounds like a frat prank at a panty raid, doesn't it?), are bothered by the idea of male prostitutes and female clients. Meanwhile, Fleiss gets caught up in a corruption case involving one of the area's most powerful brothel owners.

This is from the San Francisco Chronicle which often gets things wrong.

Wikipedia says this about Heidi Fleiss:

In 1997, she was convicted in connection with her prostitution ring with charges including pandering and tax evasion. Her ring had numerous famous and wealthy clients. She was sentenced to 37 months in prison for tax evasion, (pandering[1] charges were dropped) but served just 21. Her original three-year sentence prompted wide outrage at her harsh punishment, while her customers had not been punished.

I am calling for ALL Pahrumpians to write letters to our town council demanding the police GET SERIOUS about prostitution.

She was probably abused as a child but that does not excuse her.

How do you propose they get serious about prostitution? I'm interested to hear your views considering you live there.

I would get serious about prostitution by introducing Heidi Fleiss to our church group. I think this young lady needs some serious help.

I will be talking to our Ladies next Tuesday evening at 7pm and I am hoping we will come up with a plan to rescue Heidi Fleiss (the "Hollywood Madam). She may just be "acting out" and is really "calling out for help."

How interesting. I would love to hear what you come up with after the meeting next week.

Do you honestly think that introducing Heidi to a church group is going to stop prostitution? Give me a break! It is better to regulate it than to hide it. Or would you rather have the prostitutes roaming Wal-Mart, or cruising through the casino's looking for clients?

Quiet community??? I have lived in Pahrump for 15 years and quiet was a word used back then..not now. Legalized prostitution is and hopefully always will be a vital part of our community! As far as I know, Ms. Fleiss is not associated with any of our LEGAL brothels. The abundant meth dealers certainly don't contribute to the community, the churches are tax exempt, so if not for the "working girls" and other Pahrump businesses, where do you suppose all our tax money would come from? But then again, maybe we should outlaw gambling too. This is Nevada..If you don't like it here, please feel free to pack up and move on.

Dear Rene and Linda,

Pahrump has not ALWAYS been a den of iniquity and it I fervently believe it will not remain so for much longer. And I am happy to reveal that  our group has a plan to rid our once lovely community from the scourge of sexual servitude. You will see more about this soon as we make our plans public. This is not the Proper Place to do so even though this Now Public thing is useful.

Can you  imagine Pahrump if all  its "wandering" men were presented with other opportunities for their relief.  That is all I will say for now.
