Wow, who saw that one coming?

Stereotypes we laugh at now, were Hollywood News Breaking in the day 3 decades ago. Today Hollywood prefers to closet their Gay Actors, preferring Leading Men Straight Actors to play it Gay, yet Gay actors are not allowed to play Leading Men in action Movies for some strange reason.

Of course then there are the stereotypes Hollywood would like us to believe as well, that "Movie Guns" fire an unlimited amount of bullets without reloading, Hookers with a Heart of Gold,  and Endless Car Chases never run out of gas or can never sustain damage even after leaping off 12 story parking garages.

Hollywood telling Gays to stay in the closet if they ever want to work in this town again, as Families who watch their Movies want Macho Hetro men in their Movies.

Though for some reason it is okay to portray Gay men in Hollywood using Nudge, Nudge, Wink, Wink Leading Hetro Men such as Ryan Phillipe, the Late Christopher Reeve, Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Caine playing Gay Parts, such as Brokeback Mountain, Death Trap, Soap Opera "One Life to Live" the list goes on.

Certainly one would think Parents would be offended regardless if Hetros played Gay Characters instead of Gay Actors playing Gay parts. So what's the Point, Hollywood all of a sudden found Religion or Morals?

Below is one of the earliest Groundbreaking 1960's or early 70's era Hollywood movies where apparently censors did not object to use Gay characters, though I think they had a problem with the word "Bitch".Only in LaLa Land is the Ludicrous so Hypocritical.

Gay actors still pressured to stay closeted in Hollywood

TORONTO - Ian McKellen made headlines two years ago when the openly gay British actor spouted off on what seemed an unspoken truth: it's impossible for homosexual Hollywood actors to have successful careers.

"It's very, very, very difficult for an American actor who wants a film career to be open about his sexuality," McKellen said.

From celebrities of yesteryear like Rock Hudson and Montgomery Clift to current-day A-listers, gay actors have long concealed their sexuality, due in large part to studios who fear millions of movie-goers will stay away from films featuring homosexual stars playing straight characters.

But some say the tide might slowly be turning as young actors begin coming out amid an atmosphere of unfiltered news and photos on Internet blogs and websites.

"You have bloggers like Perez Hilton basically outing people constantly," John Webster, who writes a pop culture blog for Xtra.ca, said Tuesday.

I remember seeing a photo in a Vanity Fair spread of UK actors (this was something like 10 years ago), and he was wearing a t-shirt that said, "Wherefore art thou Romeo?". His quote was something like, "I had no problem doing nude scenes, but could I tell anyone I was gay? No." It was heartbreaking.

That dude is a total stud: I saw him on Broadway in Dance of Death, and he was as spry and physically imposing as someone half his age.

It strikes me as odd that producers can't grasp that movies are make believe. Actors are pretending... Bruce Willis doesn't really swing through plate-glass windows, and Tom Cruise isn't really taller than Nicole Kidman. Sexuality is no different.

Do we really think that the movie-going public cares that much? I'm not convinced that they do, but they only get to weigh in on what actually gets made.

Maybe closeted Hollywood gays and closeted Hollywood conservatives could ban together and do something about this closetedness.

Let all actors come out of whatever closets they are in.  Why stop at gay or straight?  How about S&M, drug use, eating disorders, transvestites, communists, polluters, assholes.........  Let's get all the info we can about these actors and make our choices of which we want to support knowing all we can.  I for one would refuse to watch a movie in which the leading actor was a polluting communist asshole who has an eating disorder!

Hi Barry, what are "Hetro men" and what have you got against Belgians?

Hetro Meaning Hetrosexual, and as for the Belgians, well they are situated north of France, West of Luxembourg and South of the Netherlands, and only a 8 hour  hop, skip and jump away from Winnepeg.

As for wha6t I have against them, obviously you have not been an unwilling receipant of a Belgian Fish Slapping Dance, and wine tasting contest!

Good points, let the most qualified actor take the role.

Thanks Rob for a comments, if we let only the most qualified actors get the roles, 90% of the actors would be unemployed including Leading A Listers, as the few Theatre Trained Actors would get all the roles. hahah
