well, i had a very moving birthday. as i was leaving the cafe yesterday in search of shade, i ran smack into angela from the hospital. she had been looking all over town for me to deliver a tracfone to me with an airtime card. she also said she had been tracked down at home by a government worker (who's name and office affiliation he asked me not to divulge) who wanted to verify my story and whether i was legit and really living in my car. she assured him i'm legit. (he read my story on nowpublic)

although he provided no help as in donations etc, he did provide a list of resources and is making some calls on my behalf for possible help. and thanks to angela arranging something, i now have a private place to park, a bathroom to use any time, a shower to use daily (wheww) and an internet connection available 24/7 till i leave for north carolina. it never ceases to amaze me how good some people can be to you when you keep your nose clean and avoid drugs and booze. there are some really good people left and this whole experience has put me in touch with a few, and leads me to believe i'll run into more during my journey eastward.

i saw my arm doc today, he said swelling is totally gone, pins will be pulled on july 3rd, and i'll be in a short cast for 2-3 weeks. since i would LIKE to leave for NC right after i get my teeth, he said he may put me in a cast i can take off myself after my time is up, but if it's only going to be 2-3 weeks it may fit well into my funding time to wait and leave after the doc removes the cast. he also freed up my fingers when he re-wrapped it, so i can start working out the stiffness in them. he showed me the 2 little calls on the ends of the pins i have sticking out of my wrist. it looked a bit odd, but now at least i know what to exect and when. tomorrow i see my blood pressure doc and see if i need an MRI to find out for sure if i have a fracture in my back. at the very least, i'll probably end up on fosamax or something similar. after that i go to redding to get my final denture fitting. this whole journey has opened my eyes to a lot of things and the feeling that although rough times are ahead for most americans, somehow i plan to make a difference in this world of chaos.
