Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief p_11

“Hope For Haiti Now: A Global Benefit For Earthquake Relief” telethon is happening tonight at 8 PM EST to raise money for the victims of the deadly earthquake in Haiti that is estimated to have killed 200,000 people and left millions without home. The multi-network two-hour Haiti benefit concert and telethon will be broadcast from four different cities. George Clooney, one of the lead organizers of the telethon, will MC from Los Angeles, CNN's Anderson Cooper will tune in from Haiti, founder of Yele Haiti Wyclef Jean will host from New York and Bono, the Edge and Beyonce will sing from London, UK. Networks broadcasting the telethon include NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox, CNN and others. The live stream of the telethon is available here.

The telethon will use the efforts of Bill Clinton, Muhammad Ali, Brad Pitt, Meryl Streep, Taylor Swift, Clint Eastwood, Julia Roberts, Will Smith, Matt Damon, Tom Hanks and Nicole Kidman. Performers will include U2, Beyonce, Madonna, Coldplay, Keith Urban, Justin Timberlake and many others.

The money will be collected via phone donations and the sales of music performances on iTunes.com. The funds collected today will be poured into the relief operations performed on the ground by American Red Cross, UNISEF, Clinton-Bush Haiti Fund, Yele Haiti, Stand With Haiti and Oxfam America. 100% of funds raised will go towards the relief effort with no backend costs, according to telethon's organizers who also claim that the Entertainment Industry Foundation has waived all administration fees.

Donations are accepted on HopeForHaitiNow.org website or by calling (877) 99-HAITI (US and Canada)/ +17733600205 (International).

The telethon is actively talked about on Twitter -- a special hashtag #hopeforhaitinow is being used in discussions. It had dominated Twitter trends throughout the day today.
