Angelina Jolie has six children: how many are there, and how many are adopted?

If I were Angelina Jolie, my motto would be 'Why have your own kids when there are so many to be adopted?' Since 2002, Angelina Jolie has been adopting and having children of her own.

Angelina Jolie first applied for adoption in Cambodia in 2001 while filming Lara Croft: Tomb Radier. However, the United States banned adoption from Cambodia later of that year because of child trafficking allegations. 

How many children does Angelina Jolie have?

Angelina Jolie has three adopted children. On March 10, 2002, Jolie adopted 7-month old Maddox Chavin from Cambodia. She and then-husband Bob Thornton announced the adoption together, but Jolie actually adopted him as a single parent. 

On July 5th, 2005, Angelina Jolie then adopted a 6 month old daughter, Zahara Marley, from an orphanage in Addis Ababa in Ethopia. It was believed that she was an orphan with AIDS, but later tested negative for HIV while in the hospital for malnutrition and dehydration shortly after being brought to the United States with Jolie. Brad Pitt took the trip to Ethiopa to pick up Zahara, and later in 2005 they announced that Pitt wanted to adopt both Maddox and Zahara. 

Jolie filed a petition with the courts to have Maddox and Zahara's last name changed to Jolie-Pitt, which was granted.

On May 27th, 2006, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie gave birth to their first biological daughter, Shiloh Nouvel, in Swakopmud, Namibia. They traveled to Namibia to avoid the media during the birth and first few days of Shiloh's life. 

On March 15, 2007 Jolie adopted again, Pax Thien, a three year old from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. She chose to name him Pax because her mother had suggested the name before she died.

Finally, in May 2008, Jolie announced that she and Pitt were expecting twins. This time, they gave birth in Nice, France, to a boy, Knox Leon, and a daughter, Vivienne Marcheline on July 12, 2008.

In 2010, there had been rumors of Jolie wanting to adopt a Muslim girl, but Pitt announced he didn't want anymore children.
